Trying to Thin the heard some and the this pops up . . .

I will say this -- about THAT Marshall.........

TBTH -- I have yet to hear a China or Vietnamese Marshall taht sounds as good as a BRITISH made Marshall---regardless of size/wattage/ head/combo etc. every overseas one Ive played (by no means ALL of them--but a LOT) doesnt have the same sound........just doesnt....

I think the EXACT same can be said for VOX as well......I keep buying "china" made VOX amps and they dont SOUND like the REAL DEAL BRIT Voxs I have played......

just my .o2 cents.

I can appreciate your comment. I have played many, many British made Marshalls. My JTM30 Combo was very warm and natural sounding, but a nightmare to keep running. My JVM410C was a better, more reliable amplifier and, without a doubt, the old SLP's certainly have a very unique and desireable tone.

However, I have discovered - with requisite suggestions from some of our esteemed amplifier techs herein - that the imported Marshalls respond very favorably to tube and speaker changes and how they tend to develop a more traditional tonal character.

Since doing the WGS Reaper 55Hz/JJ5751 modifications, I've been blown away at how good my DSL40C sounds. For classic rock, it's a great amp.

In a struggle to balance reliability, vintage tone and relatively light weight in a tube amplifier, I find the DSL40C to be really versatile.

Now one huge element to the tone of any Marshall - IMHO - is external speaker cabinets. That element totally transforms the sound....

I must be the British accent missing from the Chinese and Vietnamese built amps.

Ive heard it COULD BE ----the British are designed to a different voltage/wattage --- Britain is run on a 230 volt --50HZ deal where usa is 120volt--- YES they make the ones they send here compatable -- but--- is there a little of the 50HZ ---meandering around-in the Machine???? maybe......possibly

FYI -0-- I credit our ESTEEMED colleague VOXMAN---for this "bit" of enlightenment---which came form the RECENT MOTM conversation--- about the same.....and amps being different and SOUNDING DIFFERENT in Britain than they do here.

WHat say you Don P??? does MY MARSHALL sound different than YOUR MARSHALL???? :)

Sweetwater is also blowing out brand new left over stock of the DSL40C for $399 with free shipping.
No doubt to make room for the new DSL40CR.

It's funny because people on FleaBay are still trying to sell used ones for more $$$ than Sweetwaters price.:pound-hand:
