True Temperament Fretted Guitar...

Here's another clip featuring Mattias Eklundh. He even comments on his hair here:

That was a cool idea with what he did with the comb. I wonder if he uses hair conditioner on his strings.:D I actually have a guitar pick that acts somewhat like a comb and is called Jellyfish. It has metal spring tangs that you can sweep across the strings and you can also get somewhat of a chorus effect if you do it right. Here's a pic of the pick I have and use sometimes.

There is no such thing as a true fretted guitar. A conventional guitar is fretted in equal temperament, which is what every Western ear is attuned to. It is possible to make a guitar with Just or Pythagorean tuned frets, but only in a single key. You'd need twelve guitars to play the simplest of tunes, and be prepared to swap guitars in a hurry of you want to play anything but a root chord.

This is something done by someone who read something somewhere, had some mechanical skill and very little musical knowledge. A bit like Buzz Feiten's nut.

Thank you SOOO much for this post, Don!

I’ve been watching this thread hunting for the words to express my thoughts on this.

You said it far better than I would have.

But, I am impressed with the patience required to cut those curvy nut slots and bend those frets!
