They are functional and used the existing, adjustable snubber holes in the core support, so no drilling of the car itself....only the hood.
I used thick, rubber washers to adjust hood to fender fit.

I wrote my own tune. Its super lean at part throttle with 55° of ignition advance at cruise....
I built an HO scale model of a SSW unit # 7274 from a picture of it in Diesel ERA magazine that was taken in Trona .. it was part of the MK rebuild’s in the years prior to the UP buying them out..

SP Fairbanks Morse unit, it would have been painted in the older Black Widow paint scheme.

This is the Black Widow paint scheme,, they were quite colorful..
In the late 90’s myself and a few train buffs painted a free lanced version of this scheme but included the billboard script of the last paint scheme before the UP merger.

Trona is currently using GP-60's.
When I painted the free Lance black widows we used the wide cab GP60’s ala ATSF
They were quite impressive looking, for a fictional model railroad
Ahhh the Kodakrome paint scheme that was not to be.. from the failed ATSF anSP merger that got shot down, I did paint a GP9 and a SD40T-2 in those colors
Kodakrome. Reminded me of way back in the late 70’s the company I worked for sent me to Rochester to Kodak’s plant for some work. As a young guy I was throughly impressed by the fact that Kodak had their own train engines running around in their sprawling complex.
Cool story on that locomotive..
Driving that GP 9 must have been quite a thrill for anyone..
