Tribute to my almost and hopefully not too soon Fallen Rock Star. MY doggie Spike

Here we are and currently about 12 days since I took Spike to the vet.
She has been eating great and essentially tells me every day since her trip that she was not ready to die yet, Here She is at just before 4-5 pm today. I caught her in my eye staring at me with THAT LOOK. I knew she didn't have to PEE cuz I just took em out 2x in the preceding hour.

SO here is my Bundle of Love trying to tell me sumn.

Greg, I sent my Kathy the clip of SPike while she is in Ohio.

She said, did I see her ears when I asked, DO you wanna Eat? The thing is Spike is deaf now. I think she must now read my lips, cuz they perked up in response, just before her bellowing.

One other nice thing other than pep in her step, and that waggin tail she whips side to side and round n round.

12 days ago, she weighed 47.6 lbs. 2 days ago she was like 51.2 and today she was up to 52.2 lbs. Her normal weight is only 57, so she is almost half way there.

That’s great Mark good to see her looking forward to dinner, and the pep in her speech..
Cheers

Oh dang, I can't believe it has been since June 2021 since I posted in here, but our little baby has made it 9 months since the vet told me she could put her down that day, or in a few days after she took blood and urine samples and explained how her condition was due to her kidney disease and mass around her liver.

In the 3/4 of a year since, we have had to get Sub Cu fluid treatments a few times, plus meds for nausea and to help appetite on the occasions she took a down turn. But she keeps springing back from the puking episodes and her eating resumes normalcy and she has pep in her step and all. Crazy thing is hearing Kathy say, that is the toughest dog she has ever seen.

My reply is, and that is why I called HER Spike. Her name fits.

Let's go for and make it a year+++++, Spike!!!!!!

Here is Spike's big Brother Brody at his dad n mom's wedding when Spike and he were about 5. Sadly he has been gone a few years now but is never forgotten. A real sweet boy who lived to see about 11 years of life.

And Spike doing her Bruce Jenner impersonation a couple years later. Hard to believe she is now 14.

Dayum Chili, my heart goes out to you. September 27th we had to put my dog Cole down at the ripe old age of 16 years old. She was my best friend (next to my wife) and I hurt very much taking her to the vet to perform the deed. She died peacefully as I stroked her head. She did have a full, long life and I miss her very much. We do have one other dog named Thor. He is 15 years old, blind and deaf. When we leave the house, he waits at the gate howling until we get home. With Cole gone, him being blind and deaf, he get's very lonely and perhaps worries that we my leave and never come back like the last time he was with Coal.

Grant,. I think my mommy feels some of those feelings whenever my visits at her bedside in the nursing home end. Believe it or not,. We have a 14.5 year old Terrier too, and a 13.75 yr old pit/lab mix. My pit is deaf now, so we understand.

We had a Beagle when our boys were growing up. Her time came when the eldest hit college and youngest HS. Was never a big dog person myself….. I still cried like a baby when she passed on.

Edit: Should have added. My heart goes out to all you guys that have had to say goodby. These “pets” are way more than just a cat or dog…. They’re family. Our current fur baby will be five in a few weeks. I’ve mellowed in my old age and already know when it’s her turn, I’m gonna be a basket case.

Just getting to this thread, I know i am late Chilli, very sorry to here about your dog Spike..:(

Hey Norm, She really shows no signs of meeting the grim reaper other than 9 months worth of super high numbers for kidney disease. Her appetite is still healthy and other than last week when she puked after eating too much cat food, she has been doing great. She still eats her chicken, rice, broccoli, carrot, peas, spinach, dog food, cbd oil concoction like a champ. To see her prance about and strut with her joyful spring in her step I've known for 14 awesome years, is priceless. It brings back my memories of her running down squirrels, deer, cats, and all the ladder climbing, flying leaps off buildings that would make people gasp in amazement at her fearless feats.

My Spike was and is surely one of a kind.

Thank you to all you guys for the past 13 months of life for my dear doggie Spike.

She finally had her last bout of low appetite Wednesday and after going to the vet for fluids, we saw no improvement Thursday and she got nauseous all during the night on Thursday. So I made the hard choice Friday morning that July 22 2022 was to be the day she went home to the doghouse in the sky.

I sure was proud of her as we took our last ride, and how calm she was right up until that final injection to stop her heart.
It almost takes my breath away to type this even though I was pretty tough yesterday.

SPIKE, you were the best girl ever. Born to run, Born to bring smiles to all who saw her.
