Trek to the Swamp

I always travel w/ at least one guitar. Airports always search it, which is fine but every time they always get around to asking me, why are you bringing this with you? I always think it's a trick question, and always say the same thing .. Er, In case I feel like playing it? , on a trip I just play it, noodle around with it and whatever whimsy that might develop. They have no understanding of what I tell em. But the road case is airline approved n can be dropped out of a truck w/o a hint of injury. They told me it's looks like the cases travelers carry multiple high power rifle's to competitions with. It's usually filled w/a 71' strat thou any solid body Guit can fit it fine! Funny , they have no clue what there looking at until I tell em. I took it on my honeymoon in 88' and had a great jam with this multiple steel guitar band that I had seen in 80' in the Boston Commons .. my collage daze! I had a great time cept my liver was burning oil for three days after the wedding due to the abnormal consumption of Yeagermeister! Monday I'm feelin' a 61' SGLP special and/or a
Blond
Guild Starfire VI or a 66' 345. A Tweed Deluxe would be nice too but usually there's no 'lecric

Vox, what kind of case do you use? I’ve looked at the Gator, SKB and Pelican TSA approved ones.

DonO, I gambled that timing and logistics and of course willingness on Adrian's part would make the extra work of traveling in and out of 3 hotels with 2 guitars and a bass all worth it.

I even brought a water heater and tons of mail I need to sort thru. I wished I could have brought my floor jack and brake job tools to replace front n back brake pads on her car, but didn't do so despite bringing the pads.

So I’m guessing you drove?

Yep Don, Kathy drove, I rode shotgun and relieved her every couple hundred miles. We hit Asheville NC and The Biltmore tour and on to Charleston SC day 2, Charleston tour and trip to Daytona day 3. Now fixing to cruise around and show her Daytona in the sunshine today, now that we finished breakfast n lunch.

DonO , I went to the back door of the Roadie case company in Holbrook, NY and banged on the back door till somebody answered. Eventually some one did. Told em what I wanted, invited in, seen the whole operation and walked back out the back door. Week later got married and along with the Wedding tackle, the road case was my next important item! It's a bit of a pain though as it's kinda big, heavy, hard to store but has been on numerous flights all over the place and never an issue. Just within the exact largest dimensions of flight baggage restrictions extra charges.

Voxy, I have an Anvil Road case for my Lester. I got it for a good price from a friend and it had beautiful red velour inside.
After a number of years, the foam under the velour deteriorated so I re foamed and re- veloured it. I think they run $400 or so if I am not mistaken.
Calzone makes em now I think.

I found this, so it's good to see there is precedent for carry on. I don't fly that much any more. In the 80's I used to take my Takemine with me on trips. But back then there were pubs in the middle of DC-10s !

FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012

Sec. 41724. Musical instruments. In general …

1. SMALL INSTRUMENTS AS CARRY-ON BAGGAGE — An air carrier providing air transportation shall permit a passenger to carry a violin, guitar, or other musical instrument in the aircraft cabin, without charging the passenger a fee in addition to any standard fee that carrier may require for comparable carry-on baggage, if …

(A) the instrument can be stowed safely in a suitable baggage compartment in the aircraft cabin or under a passenger seat, in accordance with the requirements for carriage of carry-on baggage or cargo established by the administrator; and

(B) there is space for such stowage at the time the passenger boards the aircraft.

Good info Don if the case fits the overhead, thou w/a road case there is not a chance. Mine looks exactly like Chili's case or the one in the video. At the airport in Tampa they have a display that you put your carry on in and if's it's over the display parameters they :Frontier Air : call it chargeable baggage @ 38$ , I must
admit Frontier is the bottom of the barrel in the airline food chain:whistle:

I've had my eye on this one for a while. I like the wheels and the TSA locks just in case it has to get checked at the door.

I don't know Don since I have a very similar case that came with a Fender Jerry Donahue telecaster, that's the one w/ a strat neck pup and a 5 way blade switch, and the plastic of the case corner was broken! I'd have to take a pic to show ya as I was shocked. The baggage people told me the contents are covered not what it was container'd in. I've used it on flights since thou even with the case had the corner missing and no one has said anything. I was just lucky/happy the Tele was fine.

This is what my Tele lives in.

I notice that Hackmaster, being the Trifecta Lord of Hackage, has appeared between Adrian and Chili, as one would expect of the Middle Pickup Master.

Drumoid appears at the other end, as the anchor point.

Whoa...fried my mind!

There is a lot of deep subliminal power here folks...

Thats not Drumoid-- thats HANK! aka Vox AC30 .....Drumoid was trapped in a Peavey Delta Blues situation

Whaaa’....!

My serious bad!

For some reason, I thought Vox wasn’t gonna be able to make it, so I just assumed that was Drumoid.

Sorry Vox!!!
