transtube vs real tube

shoot out..............
I know the answer.......................
Well obviously, if you use effects pedals to demonstrate an amp, you are not hearing what the amp sounds like at all.
But most of these "demonstrations" are with effects pedals, which defeats the whole point.
You never hear the amp at all, just effects pedals.
This video is no exception.

Of course, trans-tube / nu-tubes are a joke.

At the risk of being "Captain Obvious" here: to me, this video ( and all similar ones) is just like making a taste-out between 80/20 grass-fed ground beef burger patties as reference, vs impossible meat burger patties, vs grain/bean-based veg burger patties, vs TVP (textured veg protein aka soymeat) burger patties... They're all made with great quality materials and a lot of time/resources invested in their development and ultimately, each one has their devotee fanbase. But as close to the real thing as those patties may get, they will end up looking differently, smelling differently, feeling differently and tasting differently than the reference. Bottomline: They are NOT the same thing. And this can be good... or not.

Funny that a thread would be posted about the Transtube.

I’ve been playing with mine a fair deal lately and I’ve been working on dialing in a good tone with it.

It may end up becoming my live amp again, at least for awhile, replacing my DSL-5C. I’d like to get a really nice tube amp for live use. I’ve been looking at Rivera amps and they have me pretty interested.

Anyway, the red stripe Transtube Special 212 is essentially a three channel amp. It has one clean channel and two drive channels. The cleans are very smooth and jazzy with lots of clean headroom.

I’m still playing around with it, but it would be pretty easy to get a decent 12” speaker to use in my iso-cab.

I'm still hung up on the title.

Let's say you are in a bar. There's a trans_____on your right and a real_____on your left. Fill in the blanks with the same word of your choice. Which one do you hit on?

Reminds me of a game we used to play on RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). As we ride up on people from behind someone yells out "Would Ya?" When we are about 25 yards back. The choice is obviously either yes or no. The problem is there are about 13000+ people on bicycles, all hunched forward, with black spandex on and shaved legs. Also, mostly in pretty good shape. I think you can see the dilemma. Guys with long hair make it particularly worrisome.
