totally unpopular opinions.

Or my next to favorite scene from The Jerk.

Of course I have posted this one elsewhere, but it is truly my favorite scene.
I love the line " You can tell so much bout a person by the way they live and just looking around here I can tell: you're a genuinely dirty person". Later on when he writes home to his family about figuring out " his special purpose" and promising some more money as Patty offered to give him a "job". His parents say " That Patty sure sounds like a sweet girl. Bless her soul" while his brother is sitting beside them hiding his laughter lol

MIKE, I see things exactly like you which makes me laugh all the more. JUST imagine knowing those "lines" are coming and having to sit there with a straight face until grandma finishes reading the letter.

I had to be that unpopular guy last night. My neighbours had big party for 2 days in a row with a lot of noise till 5 am.... I didn't say anything but last night I could not take it any more and went over there and asked them to be more considerate of others as it was 1:30am and they were still making noise... my wife works an early shift and fining hard to fall asleep with that much noise.....

I hate to be the guy who says turn it down but they left me with no choice....

Les Paul's are overrated and over priced,

Try hiding said laughter when grandkids are around. Don’t need them asking grandpa what’s so funny.

I don't find them to be overrated, but certainly overpriced for the majority of models. This is precisely why I don't own any LPs, but I did play one last week when I demoed the H&K amp. It played very well and it was a Studio model which is fairly affordable.

The builders do not get paid accordingly.
I was just poking fun at myself. Back in April with the original post there was no way on God's green earth I was ever going to own a LP. Then my wife up and drops the LP Tribute on me for our anniversary. And I love it! Dammitt!!!! :pound-hand:

I have been that guy a couple of times, no one seems to have a problem asking me to turn down, so I have no problem asking them to turn down. :dood:

I told them that it was a piss-take when you just had a crazy-ass party all night and the next day you still at it, people have work, kids are sleeping and it's not cool to be loud at night. fortunately, they were cool with it and they stoped.

I remember that now....

The Tribute series was what I was looking into recently as well as the Studio. Both LPs and SGs. I'm a Fender type guy so binding doesnt do anything for me. I like the stripped back Gibson models best. They just look and feel like roots rock and roll. The Plek job is a huge bonus though over most other builders.

Speaking of Plek it reminds me I also noticed just recently that Thomann has Plek services available as an add on to any guitar purchase. There's even a higly affordable option just to have measurements done by machine and setup by hand for $60 vs the $300 machine precision leveling option that everyone is familiar with. For $60 you'd basically be forcing them to acknowledge and address any issues with the guitar before it ships vs a brown box pulled from the shelf and dropped in the mail like you would with most retailers. And the machine will give them precision measurements to work with.

I've actually had good luck with Harley Bentons from Thomann so far and I imagine that would be money well spent to make sure they play super well out of the box. They apparently do a minimal inspection and setup on every HB before they ship, so at least they're touching every one, but this would be one way to ensure you get the best playing one especially if you opt for a model with stainless frets.

I'd love to get one of the Les Paul Tributes. They have a rounded-profile maple neck and that is a huge selling point for me. The satin finish has grown on me (and polishes up very nicely with Virtuoso if you are so inclined) and they have a tobacco burst available. Every one I have picked up has played great and they are a steal for the money.

My unpopular opinion: I don't understand the constant raving about the tone on the "Beano" album that's going on everywhere. Sure it's a great album but what's so inherently special about Clapton's guitar tone on it?

He turned that Blues Breaker all the way up. They did not allow recording at that volume in any studios at the time. Plus they generally always close micd guitars for live recordings then to eliminate bleedover and Clapton insisted that he put the microphone across the room. Him and the engineer even got into a shouting match over it until they decided to let Eric have his way. Nothing sounded like that before The Beano album.

It is essentially the beginning of the dimed out Marshall sound.

I thought the OG way was to not close mic stuff? Like a whole band was recorded with not much more than a single room mic?

While not as overdriven (and maybe smaller amps), there's some earlier stuff which sounds like it must have been pretty loud in the studio... off the top of my head:

Bought my first LP in 2017. Twas a 2016. Wondered why i waited so long! Great quality, nice wood, better than the Epi's. Worth it to me. Gotta spend it on something, only so much room so why buy cheap guitars?
I now own 3 LPs, the Explorer, and a 335.
New.
Used, a 1975 L6-S and a 1976 LP Custom.
