Top 10 Rush songs According to Singersroom! I shake my head in disgust.

I have them both and love them both. Dirk's is more accessible but Lerxst's is more experimental.

IMHO, this song contains the greatest guitar solo in history (the first one - A Lerxst in Wonderland). It's everything: a masterclass in dynamics, pacing, phrasing, note selection. I learned more about playing electric guitar from that two minutes than from all the other minutes I ever heard combined.
As good as Alex and Geddy are at what they do…. Without Neil Peart, Rush can’t exist. Their sound needs all three to be complete.

The first album was no slouch without Neil, but of course was not Rush as we all came to know it.
But I don't give more credit to any one of them, they are/were all virtuoso musicians and the band could not have existed without all three...

Hmmm. I dunno. I think Neil was with the perfect guitar player in life. No disrespect to Blackmore, but his playing never made me want to be a better guitar player the same way Alex does.
I agree that I am not nearly as inspired by Blackmore. Much respect.
Not taking side though.
I read some garbage replies on FB
Michael Schenker won some guitar poll and instead of people being happy forum they were commenting stuff like where is Jeff Beck or Edward?
Both of those guys got plenty of awards and recognition.
Nothing against their abilities but EVH is not the only band in the world . Thank god!

For sure. For my money MS plays circles around JB or even EVH. Yah, I said it - he's the only one of the three that doesn't bore me.

I remember when Neil did his hiatus after both his wife and daughter died. Alex and Geddy told him if/when he was ready to get the band together, call them. But we’re not doing Rush without Neil Peart. If memory serves it turned into a two or three year break. That’s just how much they meant to each other.

I really liked the earlier Rush
But not much for the after the 80’s Rush.
And I am not going to post a list.

Not saying that after 80 sucked.. it’s just I liked the older stuff better
I love Rush but yeah, mostly everything from the debut to Subdivisions, none of the 80s to mid 90s pop/soft rock/synth era. The last few albums were good and they got their act back together. I prefer the old harsh but technical era

I love Schenker to death and would put him on equal if not greater footing than EVH due to being more focused on the solo fitting the riff vs the solo being a showcase. EVH obviously had hellacious riffs but the solos while technically gifted, often didn't fit the melody. Schenker let it flow beautifully with the tempo of the riff and was very soulful in it.

As for Jeff Beck however, I'll stand by my statement I held up until his death: he WAS the greatest living guitarist. Reason I back him was he could do what few others could and that's becoming a chameleon: the ability to change and adapt with ease . Whether it was rockabilly, jazz fusion, blues, country, metal or just rock; he did it and did it convincingly.

I appreciate Beck as player. I used to have Blow by Blow but I honestly don't listen to him much.
Guys like AL Dimeola are some of the most talented guitarist ever but I always gravitate to rock. Randy Rhoads might be my favorite player but there are so many great guitarist.

I haven't read the list of what songs were top 10, but never expected any real justice to be done to a band like RUSH by limiting ANYTHING to 10.

Right there, we should have known it would be lame.
Anyway, I can't believe no one including the commentator, posted my favorite song of all time from RUSH. If this doesn't tell us just what kind of guys RUSH are, I don't know what does. HAHA

I Think I'm Going BALD

The RUSH album is actually one of my FAVORITES and has my favorite song on it, and to me Geddy's best vocal period, the highest and shriekiest he could get. THIS is VINTAGE GED.

Here Again. To me it may be slow, but when his lead begins at 4:38, gets juicy by 4:56 and lasts till 6:36, it is some of Alex's most expressive playing of his whole career in my opinion. And to think how young he was and if that wasn't good enough, the way he has the building way the song ends from 7:10 on is pure genius. I could play this lead on a loop 24/7 and never get tired of it.

CorrectoMundo! The others are ok, well some ( Roll The Bones is abysmal lol) but those 4 are legendary.

How in god's name they didn't throw tracks in like Anthem, Working Man, Bastille Day, Fly By Night, Xanadu, Closer to The Heart, By Tor and The Snowdog, A Passage to Bangkok, Twilight Zone, Any of the 2112 but namely Temples of Syrinx, Fountain of Lamneth, The Necromancer, Red Sector A, Red Barchetta, La Villa Strangiato, The Trees or Free Will is beyond me. ( And I left out a LOT of stuff here too but these being instantly recognizable songs)

Sounds like it was written by someone who only heard Rush from 1979 to about 1991 and literally NOTHING else

Mike, I am sure you and gball, bdon, ibmor etc who are Rush fans will not shame me if I also include a few extra of my favorite Rush Tunes not mentioned by anyone yet.

See how that word BEST, which was also paired with 10 by the author, is a fallible proposition.

For me, it all began with 2112, but when I got the 3 album collection called Archives, I was officially 4 Albums into my life-long addiction.

From 2112, Discovery/Presentation is So overlooked but I love it. Go Neil for writng it. Alex and Ged for bringing the Strange New Wonder to life. I cannot even describe the WTF eye opening experience I had when I put 2112 on for the first time without ever hearing even 1 Rush song before the day I bought that album. I played 2112 a good time or 3 to absorb all I had injected into my soul like a junkie does to smack.

Soon after came one of the best live albums ever. ALL The World's a Stage, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, and as soon as they came out, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures.

Speaking of Permanent Waves

I think I like more songs off that album than the more popular hits off Pictures.

Different Strings flat out hooks me, the Bass, the eerieness, etc. Natural Science no explanation needed. This song is as much a masterpiece to me as Cygnus etc.

As I write this, I think the term BEST should not be used.
So many of Rush's song are simply GREAT. No need to be the greatest for us to enjoy all that they offer.

Like Mitch said, the older Pre 1980-1984 ish time frame had the signature variety and exceptional musicianship. Geddy, Neil and Alex were kown for.

I mean just listen to this one that would never get airplay in any era of Popular Radio Station/TV productions. Yet it is one of my favorites.

Madrigal.

Found this album cassette in an old Toyota at the local junk yard in1976. Played it when i got home. It was like finding something from outer space. I was blown away! And i still am.

One of my other Favorites, Fountain of Lamneth
