Lists like this are fun. And they are never to be taken too seriously. If you simply were to mention the most iconic electrics of all time, I guess the top two would me a toss-up between the Gibson Les Paul and the Fender Stratocaster, but this is MY list. It is hard to prioritize correctly here, and the list will vary from day to day, but right now mine would be something like this:
1. Gibson SG Standard
2. Gibson Les Paul Standard (1957/humbuckers)
3. Tie between Gibson SG Junior and Gibson Les Paul (1953-55 goldtop/wraptail/P90)
5. Fender Telecaster
6. Gibson Les Paul Junior
7. Gibson ES335
8. Gibson Flying V
9. Gibson Firebird I
10. Gibson Byrdland (Florentine cutaway)
Yeah, I dig Gibsons. And yes, I know, there are tons of other cool guitar models that deserve to be on a list like this.
I don't even pay attention to those kind of lists, I have my own personal list, where I come to my own conclusions from playing the guitars. There are many factors for me before I put the stamp of approval on it. The feel, Quality overall of the guitar, pickups, will it give me the sounds for the styles of music I will be performing. Does it have the proper eye candy I am looking for. Does it have a thin neck which I must have. I am a big fan of Godin guitars as you well know. And they have many models which cover all my needs. But never the less I still tryout many Brands that are in the market. I have seen many lists of top 10 guitars from other sources and not even mention some that should be in there in all honesty. Anybody can put a list out there, It all comes down to personal preference, whether the axe is worth a couple of hundred dollars or a couple of thousand.
Guitar
Gibson Lester-----T-60 (PEavey) Gibson SG--and I must say -- Fender Strat
Bass:
PEavey T-40
Peavey Unity
Gibson EB
Gibson G3
Epi Thunderbird.
and the J and or P bass--- honestly-- BY SQUIRE....I like the necks better !!!
I WILL underline this with the fact that in that list --- there are certain models or iterations -- that CAN suck --- I have come to learn NOT ALL "GOOD" GUITARS ---are -- and not all CRAP guitars ARE either ---
I would (and have ) owned and dearly enjoyed OFF brand -- no name -- home hacked-- kits and crocks and barnyard finds---
that said -- if for some twist of nature or 3rd world war required me to own ONLY 2 guitars-- forever and to the end of my days it would be a damn hard thing to do -----------
but these
Would be the 2 keepers et all----- amazing on every count built to withstand nuclear holocaust and can mimic soooooooo many tones while feeling and playing GREAT ------yep...no doubt...
Id even take the T-60 OVER the lifelong dream LEs Paul Recording ---- because 1. could beat a mugger to death with the Peavey and not miss a lick --- and IF I had to ever replace it -----its 7 TIMES cheaper!
