StewMac just released this really nice short demo on levelling and dressing up some seriously worn frets. Plus... Any Todd Rundgren fans out there?

Eric Coleman seems to be growing again...

Good, but having taken 5 thou off the frets, he should have done the same for the nut. I find that 1st fret excess force from too high a nut is one of the worst things on a poorly set up guitar. Bad feel and rotten low end intonation are the inevitable result.

IMG_20180307_10797.jpg I saved the original frets on a guitar that belonged to the clinent's deceased brother for sentimental value.

It was a huge job and it required a out .034" removed from the nut slots and the barrels on the bridge had to be machined flat on the bottom in order to get acceptable action.

I would refret...

I like to cut the notch string deep enough for a good solid correct 1st fret note. But, I'm don't guitar action real low these days like I used to, so as long as the notes are correct and the action is medium'ish I'm happen. Gives me a fair set up for all around playing.
