Really cool to see how Kossoff varies his playing from performance to performance. This seemingly simple riff is interpreted slightly different almost every time. Countless "how to play" videos can be found on YouTube claiming to present the "correct" version. But then you see the man himself play it, and he doesn't care what's "correct". It just needs to be played with the right swagger! And having Paul Rodgers sing helps too.




 
i'm in a Kossoff discovery period myself.
Know the popular stuff, but am listening to more, and more carefully.

Nice! "All Right Now" was the first tune I ever performed with my first band. We played it rather badly, I must admit.

I have been listening to Free for ages, but I've only recently realized just how great they really were. My favorite tracks are probably "Bodie" and "The Highway Song", from the "Highway" album. Both because of Paul Rodgers' vocals. He just shows such fantastic restraint. He can belt it out if he wants to, but like with Kossoff's playing it is just as much all the notes he is NOT singing that make him great in my view.


 
I watched Free form, and jammed with them on occasion, and I still don't really understand how it all happened. They were little kids really, but even then musical prodigies. Paul Rodgers somehow came down from up North and became part of what was essentially the King Alfred's School band.

Thats such a cool thing to look back on - to be around something gelling that would become very significant. Though you could not know it at the time.
