To What Are Yee Listenin' Right Now?

That's an awesome experience for your grandson and for you!
It’s been pretty cool for sure. His older sister played trombone in the same orchestra last year. She just finished her Freshman year in college.

There were 3 pieces played before intermission. After intermission they came back on stage for the main event.
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 op. 64.

It was all awesome…. But they hit Tchaikovsky out of the park. Easy to forget these guys are high school students.

Great stuff, iblive!
It brings backs memories of when I was in high school in the 60s. I was a drummer then, and a guitar player too, but it was the drumming that allowed me to participate in one year of high school Allstate Band and two years of participation in Allstate Orchestra in Rhode Island. At that time it was common for every State to construct an Allstate Band and an Allstate Orchestra, from which players could audition and be chosen to participate in either the "School Band" or "School Orchestra" of America to tour and perform in Europe for two months post graduation.

Kudos to your grandkids!

I was a band nerd. Played trombone. Had a blast. But living in a little town in rural western Illinois didn’t afford me opportunities like our grandkids are getting living in Chicago.
