To Cut Into The Wire Harness, Or Not To Cut Into The Wire Harness - That Is The Question:

To Add A Switch, Or Not???

Robert,

The Boss LS-2 will do what you need. In A<>B mode, you can plug your 6 string neck in to the “input” of the LS-2, and your 12 string neck in to the “return B” jack. “Send A” can go to your 6 string FX and amp. “Send B” can go to your 12 string amp.
Step on the switch, and toggle between the two, one at a time. You even have a level controller, if desired, for each(boost/cut). Also an indicator light for each.

I just set it up to try...worked fine.

Oh wow!!!!

here is a pic of what I have. Bought mine abt 20 years ago when I had my repair shop. Never use it now.

I believe mine is blue. I will dig it out to ship to you. Just pm your address to me. Plug one neck into A the other into B and cord to amp into in/out.

It might take me a while to figure it out!

Shoot, man...volume pedal, A/B, Delay, Noise Gate...I might have to find me a ultra compact board....first time ever!!!!

I'm in no rush. I recently resigned from "The Travellers" and I'm not currently gigging....

The one caution I'd make is that a passive, mechanical switch will have a noticeable, "pop" when switching from one side to the other. Soft switching with transistors is quicker and quieter.

When I use my home-made A/B switch to switch guitars to a single amplifier, I ramp my volume pedal down before switching.

Mine doesnt pop much; I A/B to 2 amps sometimes but mainly use it as a mute.
Cheap and easy, but I already had the parts on hand.

I used this diagram, without the power jack, just the battery harness:

Is there any particular reason why you wired the guitar this way, @Robert Herndon? Whay didn’t you install a switch to flip between the necks to begin with?

Hey, Ghar, I just didn't think about it. I originally spent so much effort on separating the two necks that it slipped my mind...

Gibson uses one toggle to not only change between pickups, but also switch necks. I considered this, but then all the wires are crammed together and I thought this would be bad for quiet operation, so I just drew it out like two Les Pauls, but with only a master volume and tone per neck and a single K40Y tone capacitor. It just seemed simpler, the connections are cleaner and less stuff to go wrong.

Aha, kind of what I guessed. How much of a hassle would it be to rewire it?

One other thing...when it was being built, I didn't think it would becaome my "main guitar," so if used in a studio environment, there would be no need to switch between necks. However, since it has literally become my "Number One" guitar - and I mean I play the hell out of it every night - I now need a way to switch necks on-the-move so to speak...and that wasn't taken into consideration during the design phase... :-)

Live and learn!!!! LOL!!!
