To Cover or Not to Cover

Do you cover your springs or not?

  • Yes. I don't want my springs exposed to prying eyes. Cover them up!

  • No. Let the world see my spring cavity! Besides, it makes tweaking easier.

I thought the first "mod" to a strat-- or SUPER strat (Jackson, Peavey, BC Rich, Ibanez, Charvel--note to self I NEED a Charvel) was to REMOVE the spring cover because it robbed tone ..............and hid it------behind that accursed VOLUME KNOB!!!!!!!!!!

TBTH I have a drawer of things -- and several spring covers to guitars I do not EVEN OWN anymore are there-- can I recycle these or feed starving Ugandan children with them?????

Ill check I know there was white---cream-- black-- but things go missing--- dogs chew stuff......cats steal and sell on ebay when Im working.......wife uses them to plug a hole in a chicken coop or save a drowning chinchilla .....or repair a 72 ford engine block (she is very handy) ........who knows

Oh no I am not sir! The bar is not plugged in at the moment, but the receiver is there.
Sorry for the crap pictures...

Edit: it is a factory Fender trem, in a USA Standard Stratocaster.

I’m amazed, befuddled, and gobsmacked.

A factory Fender Strat Trem without need of a cover?

Wait...I think a couple of brain cells collided...hold on...alright...I’ll be okay...

Whew...that was close!

I don’t know what to tell you. A couple of people around here have strats that, at least, started out life like mine.
Reverb has this on them: Fender Standard Stratocaster 1984 Sunburst Price Guide

You can read all kinds of stuff in the typical forums by googling “2 knob Stratocaster”.
I’ve had mine since 1988. It’s an 83/84(the original neck has an 83ish serial, but is stamped 84 on the heel)

Cover, even though I have a sexy brass block and black springs.

1. I never adjust the claw on stage and I can operate a screwdriver.
2. I don't want the claw or springs to catch on what I am wearing

I also leave the covers on. I've only ever had to set them up once, after that they never need be to touched. Restringing a strat with the cover on is no big deal & I usually do the strings one at a time rather than take all off & spend ages getting it back up to pitch. Change one string, tune, stretch stretch stretch along the whole string length, retune & move on to next. So the cover being on isn't a problem. Cheers
