Tire Shopping

And damn, 40,000 miles in 22 months. You drive to Vegas every weekend? My 2010 Camaro just turned 50,000 miles last month.

Well, we visit my parents up near Fresno, and that's a 500 mile round trip, but my usual daily commute is 75 miles, plus weekends driving for fun...in 2016 I drove to Fresno for 4 months every weekend to recertify my law enforcement credential, so I guess it adds up!!!

Since I have staggered wheels, I cant rotate tires. I put this set of four on at the same time - 275/35/20 x 255/35/20 Nankang Noble Sports - and they've really done well with a 400 Treadwear rating.

Yesterday, I saw some Michelin's at America's Tire with a 700 Treadwear rating!!!!

Got the Nankang NS-25's (255/35/ZR/20) on with index marks aligned with valve stems. Took only 1/4 ounce each to balance. Made sure the pull stripes were properly offset. Traction AA Temperature A Treadwear 500.

Local alignment shops declined to accept the Mustang because it has been lowered...which isn't really a bad thing since they often perform substandard work.

This was lowered with a factory Ford Motorsports kit....not a hack job. I installed Eibach offset camber bolts for correction.

Keep in mind alignment tolerance is ridiculously wide!!

On this chassis, the camber specifications are 3/4¤ positive to 3/4¤ negative.

I pulled out my old alignment gauge and dialed in 1/2¤ negative camber on both sides, which is about all I can get.

Then I looked at the toe specs - 0.10¤ + or - 0.20¤ respectively. Working this out, with a 27" front tire, that's a huge spread - from 3/32" Toe Out to 9/32" Toe In.

With the help of Quinten, we dialed in 1/8" (.125") toe in and drove the car. I marked each tie rod with magic marker and shifted both wheels equally until the wheel was centered, then reconfirmed toe in.

Drives really great!!!!
