Thread From Another Forum Shocked Me...

A lot of people over on MLP have been posting to a thread about not playing guitar anymore. Many of these guys are long time members with a very high post count. Many are also very knowledgeable and helpful, but they claim they have quit playing guitar.

I was shocked to see so many that participate in the forum, but don't play at all.

Are there any members here that don't play their guitars?

Don't Play Guitar Anymore

Maybe they are "posers with means" who just like buying expensive investments to hang on the wall and look at ?

I cant play -- but I PLAY AT PLAYING every day --- bass or guitar -- or both ---
typically have one on my lap -- as I do now-- while posting here--- noodle noodle -- post-- noodle noodle read-- post ----make stupid low offer on some USA Peavey --- noodle noodle post --- post --- and here we are

I know--- I need to get a life---

but MLP can suck it IMHO was a member there many moons ago --- the snobbery ran me off

There are some really good guys on MLP, but it's size alone accounts for some of the snobbery and A-Holes. I started there first and made my way to the SG forum and then to here.
This is my home, but I still visit MLP, TGP and Strat-Talk daily.

As for me...I suck! But at practice at sucking less every day. I still can't play an entire song and my chord changes are so bad they would have you all running for cover...but...IT's FUN!

Don't forget we got Kevin Paul from over there and Alligatorbling has also joined us from over there.

I can’t envision NOT playing some kind of music. The concept just doesn’t register with me.
Even now, sitting in my recliner, I don’t have to fully extend my arm to have a guitar in hand(or a keyboard-yep-with black AND white keys...only 49 though, and I need to connect it to something like a phone, tablet, or computer to make noise....really horrible noise...bit I digress).
Though I don’t gig much these days, I did gig a bit in the past, and I may again.
I think that I’d have to be in a really “bad place” to quit playing music.
For guitar related stuff; I signed up at MLP in 2009...then the old SG place in 2012....now I’m here.
Thanks for having me.
Much like Tony M. I’ll probably stop 2 days after I’m dead...maybe.

I wonder how much of that is due to maybe some of them are just physically incapable of playing a guitar anymore. That thought scares me... :ohno:

Sometimes I think I should quit.
Only quit if you don't enjoy it. If it is because the your perceived skill level, stay at it. BELIEVE ME when I say that I had many periods of feeling hopeless on guitar. But my persistence has always resulted in increased ability...always. I may not be good, but I am better than I was. Anyway, your wife needs someone to play her bass with.

I play every day, without fail. If I don't have time, I make time.

I don’t play every day. But I’d like to. By the time I get home from work (last nights commute was nearly an hour), have our high energy pup want me to play with her, do supper, spend time with my bride..... I’m usually asleep in the rocker pretending to watch TV.

But I still enjoy it. Like a couple have mentioned here, I pretty much suck at it.... but I’m gonna keep at it. There was a period where I barely picked it up..... as in a couple decades.... then I joined the worship team at my church and I was “forced” into practicing. And what a surprise. I got better. Who knew that would happen.

Couple days ago I pulled my bass out of the hidden corner. Think I’m gonna work harder at playing it, ‘cause frankly. I’d be a better bass player than a guitar player. I played trombone in band. Sing bass when I do actually sing. When listening to music I tend to hum along with the bass player..... my brain is wired to think in bass.

But the guitar players get the girls..... so what can I say. Since I got the girl 40+ years ago, maybe it’s time to do the bass.
