I’ve often mentioned on this forum and others how much I like Deep Purple. But, this song by this band always grabs me:

Funny story...

A few years ago my second son had just discovered this song on YouTube. He started to play it for me. I just said, “Oh yeah, I remember that one.” Then, I picked up my guitar and started to play along with the song.

All he said was, “I didn’t know my own dad knew this song.” For whatever reason, this song made a real impact on him, too.

Walk this way
Hells Bells
You Shook Me
the entire collective of Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd

That song made me want to play guitar in the first place. Music class, 1979, my music teacher allowed students to bring in albums. WOW. What an impact. I bought the album. I bought my first electric soon there after.

Simply my favorite song ever...

It's the very essence of music to me: this song taught me everything I ever needed to know about music. There have been variations on it's themes from other sources, but nothing else that ever distilled everything that I would ever find important in music into one song as this does.
