Thinking about a new car

I was paying as low as $2.17 a few months ago. Now it is killing me when I drive my F150. I can't even fill it up in both tanks for under $110 I think.
This sucks when I need it for construction work too. Gotta get my gas sipper 1983 Honda Station wagon back in business if ya know what I mean.

My Evo gets 10mpg, 19 on the hwy. The new cars I'm looking at get around 35-34 mpg.

OMG 10MPG from an econo box on steroids.

My 83 civic got me 35-40 from a 35 year old Gerbil mill.
10 mpg from a production race car that was de-tuned to be legally sold in the US. Then promptly re-tuned to race car performance just after driving off of the show room floor.

I hear ya Grant. But unless I am mistaken, a Lancer was initially really a 4 cylinder grocery getter, no?

G, I am sorry you encountered your engine troubles and have to even make the sale decision. I almost always hate to sell any of my rides, even if they were lifelong beaters that I simply drove as gingerly as possible to make them last as long as possible before needing expensive repairs that I'd rather buy a replacement car/truck instead.

Good luck in your sale and purchase of your replacement.

Me either, I work for myself. Hoping to fix up all my rides, house, etc and sell a bunch of stuff to raise cash if ya know what that means.
Believe me I do! We scrapped by raising the kids and now they are all grown and gone. Our shack is finally paid off and we are working on a complete remodel. I acquired the other half (duplex) which also needs a complete remodel also, we are converting it into 1 house. Just got done redoing all the roofs and starting all new windows and doors and siding starting next week. It all comes out of my paychecks.....she doesn't make a lot which is a shame since she does "Home Health Care" but keeps us fed :p We just spent $1000 having a 100-200 year old cherry tree dropped. Two of the limbs had fallen over the past year & 1/2 and were 3ft wide & 30ft long.... I didn't need it falling on my neighbors house or out to the street onto my other neighbors cars lol! I am to the point I want to take a big insurance policy out and "have an accident"....I don't know why it burnt down...lol
Nah it's paid for and at times seems like it would be cheaper to buy a different house but hopefully one day it will be finished and the way we want it!

Dang, Rob. You been spying on me? Lost one house to bank. Have another to refurb and sell. Refurbing girlfriend's now and had tree guys take down 2 big trees and some small ones for $2500.
Going to hopefully mill the big trunks of the maple and locust tree into cabinetry type wood boards instead of just chopping up for firewood or disposal.

That insurance story reminds me of one I tell of 2 retirees in Fla. The one tells the other his business suffered total damage from a hurricane. The other chuckled and asked, " how do ya start a hurricane?"

Too bad Wav lives so far away, I'd sell him my Saturn for his daily commuter.

Say Chili --- any tips on restorations?!?!?!

I recently "inherited" a project (like I need another) from my neighbor--- he has 3 or 4 of these lying around the yard--- and just started a total rebuild of a 77 4x4 .....this one was "in the way" so its now at my house--- along with the title --- got it for a steal........I mean really --- I could part it out and quadruple the $ in a weekend.
79 F100 Ranger--- Calling it Ol Blue.

North Fl. truck from day one --- VERY little rust for an all original body --
Original 302-- fires and runs like a champ (sounds great too) tranny and brakes all work perfectly --- need fresh fluids and filter changes --- but all in all a runner--- lights work -- turn signals work-- wipers work--- its a peach---mostly a TON of cosmetics are needed....new shocks....new underside rubbers...

My son and I are making it a "project" together -- should be fun.

I'm getting a very early 70's GMC Truck with the farm I'm buying. It has a big 454 in it! I remember roasting about 10,000 miles of tread off the tires when I was 16...all in one long 30 - 40 foot burn out!

WTF???

4.6 litre 3 valve V8 with a full-race tune and 4.30:1 gears!!!!
