The World = crazy. Strat necks as expensive as whole Guitars

I am possibly in need of a new neck/ used neck for my 1 Strat.
Reason being that my truss rod nut appears to just spin. I know the head is not stripped since I drilled out the plug and can see the head of the nut spin, not just the wrench spinning in a stripped head.

Sadly, I perused ebay late last night only to find ridiculous prices for E serial number and other USA or even Warmoth Strat necks. How can anyone pay $400-$600+ for just a neck possibly without and sometimes with tuners, string trees etc.

This seems NUTS considering a whole strat can be had for that amount.

What is a Poor guy to do if he needs a new neck?

Before I began my Les Paul project, I was planning a Strat project.

I determined a better course of action would be to buy a whole guitar that already had the body and neck I wanted and mod it.

I agree pricing is nuts for some of the necks out there. But I have found that there are plentyof perfectly fine
Mexican, Chinese, and Indonesian necks out there for great prices. I just bought a perfect Strat neck for $75.

Hard for me to put a Foreign neck on my 1989 Amercian Standard Strat to make it whole again.
On a side note, I see Fender walnut plugs for T rod nut holes, but they aren't tapered. Does anyone know how to taper them perfectly and not mess up the head stock?

Sp8,, I would have no issues buying a "player" neck for my Strat. But ideally, I would like an E serial one with a functioning T rod.
I sure wish my nurse buddy would scan my original neck I gave him to see if he can see what is happening to the T Rod or nut to see if it is broken or not.

I understand, but I agree on the crazy prices. If you removed the badging I could not tell one from the other.
The neck I have on the way has really nice figuring and has been "Badged" with Custom Shop decals. It was
originally a Mexican neck, but I cant tell...seller was open and honest about it as well...

Hi Bea. Thanks for asking. I am in the process of having a friend " Xray" the neck to see what issue might be going on with the T rod. I drilled out the walnut plug and yet cannot back out the nut nor have it fall out as if it were loosened off the rod and/or the threaded part sheared off. So, I am waiting before assessing the condition to see how to proceed. In the mean time, I guess you could say I am looking for a spare/replacement neck to have so I can at least play my Strat. I have an excellent Luthier, but being of limited income, I want to see how well I can fix it myself before resorting to a professional.

Then i would try to buy a cheap chinese strat neck. They may be really good, they'll allow You to play the strat, and they could be sold with not too much of loss.
