The vacation version of you…

At the moment I’m sipping a beer at an island in the Aegean sea, looking out over the Mediterranean. These kind of large resorts aren’t really my thang but the wife and son like it. We got the trip as a wedding gift when we got married last year, after having been together for 15 years, and produced one little bastard (in the kindest sense).

Anyway, as I’m sitting here looking at people I find myself imagining them in their natural environment, that means anywhere but here. What do they look like in their winter clothes? Who’s a factory worker and who’s the VP of some successful businesses? When people are (literally) stripped down to their bare skin, in a place where they don’t have to do anything, it’s kind of hard to tell. Anybody could be anybody.

My vacation self, which is usually let out on a boat, where most of the vacation is spent, is what I consider my “real” self. Barefoot in worn jeans and t-shirt (or shorts when the weather permits). Pretty laid back with a semi hippie mentality.

What is the vacation version of you like?

I am the "vacation version" of me at all times.

What you see is what you get.

Sometimes I wish everyone would just be who they are, instead of pretending to be who society tells them they "should" be.

I'm guess I'm a non-conformist in that way.

Some people don't like that.

And I don't care even a little :)

Not much different TBH. The wife and I have spent the last 20 or so years living in places that other people view as "vacation spots" and despite the fact that I work every day we pretty much take advantage of that fact. We do go away from time to time, but it ironically seems to be to other places an awful lot like where we live, and I sometimes wonder why we bother since we do all the same stuff we do at home.

The vacation version of me?

Well, the vacation version of me is going to be somewhere near the ocean. I grew up in the mid-west, but ever since moving to the mid-Atlantic, I've fallen in love with the ocean. I don't live right near the coast, but I'm just about three hours away - close enough for a quick vacay or afternoon.

I like watching the sun rise over the Atlantic near the Virginia Beach area. You can often spot a pod of dolphins swimming by in the morning. They get surprisingly close to shore.
