The Sound Sample Thread

Ambassador
We often get to see everybody's gear, but never hear that gear. This thread is dedicated to hearing your gear.

Post a clip of what you got:
- new pedal
- new amp
- new tubes
- new strings
- a great sounding capacitor (oh yes, I went there)
- and of course, guitars and basses and anything else that makes up our audible musical gear.

I will get things rolling in post # 2

I present you with an A/B game. Play if you dare. The first 2 clips are my attempt at lead. The second 2 clips are some chords. Lead was played on the neck pups and chords were played on the bridge pups (I sort of did that backward, but whatever). One is a Gibson R6 (1956 Historic Reissue VOS). The other is an Epi SG G-400 Pro modded and set up by me with Tom Anderson PH1 and PH3 pups. So, which is which?

No clue, but just for sharts and giggles, I'll say the lead was the SG and the chords were the R6 (Of which I am totally jealous, btw!)

Wait ... 1 3 5 4 2, what is that ?
1= bridge
2= bridge/middle
3= middle
4= middle/neck
5= neck
Is that it ?

You might have to raise the bridge pu, position 2 is more trebly than 1.
But what do I know, I don't have a 3 pickup guitar.

The SMs sound really good.

I heeded your advice. In doing so, I noticed that I was never getting to position one. The slot for the blade switch, originally cut for a box/circuit type blade, was not long enough. I few file strokes fixed that just fine and I now have a 5th, trebley sound to work with!!!

Sweet, very sweet---damn good clean playing as well RVA..... rock on man......

I am curious what others think of the sounds of the 1983 Strat Elite (as opposed to the new line of Elite Strats). Just some light picking and strumming here. I have always thought this is one of the best sounding strats. I would love to hear what others think. Honest opinions only - I will continue to think it is one of the best sounding strats and will not get my feelings hurt if you say that it is not your cup of tea or worse. Just render your true opinion if you care to do so and you can overlook the hurried attempt at a sound sample!

Sample goes / bridge / bridge-middle / middle-neck / neck / neck-bridge / middle / neck-middle-bridge

OK, so here is another guitar A/B. This was inspired by my inability to "upgrade" the pickups in my Agile 3010SE despite having a draw full of "boutique" pickups that I want to try because it sounds so damn good. This urge is even stronger since my wife has imposed a 1-in-1-out rule on my guitar purchases.

So I give you an LP shootout.

This is an Agile 3010SE v. a 2010 Gibson Custom Shop 1960 Historic VOS (R0).

Both are stock, except I did do a fret level and sand the nut a bit on the Agile.

The Agile pickups have A5 magnets. The R0 has BB1 and BB2.

All the settings are the same and all the pots are at 10.

Guitar A is always guitar A and B is always B. The clips go:

Neck A
Neck B
Middle A
Middle B
Bridge A
Bridge B

So, which do you prefer?
