the power of 1

They had a Marshall DLS1 a few years back (that i think is still available)that actually roared for its size. Obviously wasnt going to drive any stacks but in a single speaker cab or 2 speaker cab? You could you get some punch

I believe they mention the DSL 1 in the article.-- IF I didnt have the Blackstar Id have the Marshall.;...........or perhaps..........

another ton of 1 watt fun they dont mention

I have a Peavey 6505 mini. So 20 watts to 5 to 1. Versatile! Nice feature set and can gig with it.

You guys have inspired me to get back to my 1 watt build. At the moment its a bunch of parts that's been sitting for many, many months. Based loosely on the Robrobinette JCM800 micro, it'll most probably end up along the lines of a JCM800 micro meets Laney AOR. About the only thing needed are front & rear faceplates, so really, I can have at it & fit them later. Cheers

I find them interesting until I get one and then lose all my enthusiasm. I just don't care for the 1 watt sound...

A couple years ago I really wanted to build the Mojotone Studio One 1-watt amp kit. What kept me from pulling the trigger was that the kit still had a large footprint. The small box head is 20" wide. If it would have been about 16" to 17" wide, I probably would have bought it. I was figuring that a 1-watt amp should look on the very small side. I still might do it though, cuz Lord knows that I need more amps...

*sigh*
The Robrob JCM800 micro 1w build I started in April still sits frozen in time on my garage bench.
Now that this latest driveway project and FLA trip is behind me, I figure to get back to it.

I've looked at these before, well designed & sound great. They'd be a very good first project for those who are yet uninitiated into the art of amp building. I expect most everyone could follow that layout & complete a build.
They can utilise 3 different twin triode tubes too (12DW7, 12AT7 & 12AU7) for 3 different levels of output power (not that it'd make a great deal of difference in actual "db"), though each type might sound a bit different.

I know what you mean about the large footprint. I'm using an 18 watt Marshall type chassis for mine. I could get the circuit into a smaller chassis but still need sufficient front panel area for all the control pots. The chassis is a bit over 18" wide, so the headcab will be at least 20". Of course, with a resistor change or two mine can use an ECC99 twin triode as the output tube, which will up the output to about 10 watts making for a versatile little amp. Best have at it. Cheers
