I live in an apartment complex. Great location, cheap rent, some real doozy of neighbors. The complex isn't that big with only a few floors and about 20+ units. There are about three or four families that all know each other or are related in here as well. Some of them are perfectly fine, but there's two families here that cause problems.
One of the issues we keep running into, is that these trouble families keeps putting large items, like mattresses and furniture, out by the dumpster to be picked up. We don't have a regular large item pickup and the management group keeps having to hire a junk removal to pick up the piles that slowly build. Then we'll get the angry community letter about how we are not allowed to leave large items by the dumpster. Some of us have tried to talk to the manager about who's doing it, but it ultimately doesn't matter.
Queue up this past week. Our favorite family sneaks out a sectional leather couch and stacks it up next to the dumpster. Then, they add a mattress to the pile. Now, the dumpster sits by one of the entrances of the complex and at the top of a steep, narrow driveway down to a smaller parking area. This lower level has one in and one out, up this steep driveway. Our favorite people park down in the lower area.
Garbage truck comes and picks up the garbage and empties our community dumpster. When they do this, the two sectionals and mattress come tumbling down, landing where the dumpster should be sitting, on a concrete pad. Garbage man, pauses a moment looking at this giant stack of furniture and makes his decision. "Not my problem" Drops the dumpster, and moves on with his life.
The dumpster is now sitting in the middle of the driveway down to the lower parking area, completely blocking the path. It's a giant dumpster so no one is going to be able to just push it aside. I laugh as I see all three parking spaces full of these people's cars and SUV and are now completely screwed. They're not going anywhere, any time soon.
It's a small victory.
