The Muse I Adorn

Haven't played the CV 50's strat in awhile.
Really good playing and sounding guitar.
To me anyway, as I am not primarily a strat guy.

I have been playing the Silkyn amp for about a week now, and starting to beleive the problem is resolved.
Cranked it way up for about 15 min too.

the CV 50's strat vibrato arm has some wobble. I use the little Fender spring in the hole to keep it from sloshing around.
So, I cut the spring down hoping threading in a little deeper would reduce the wobble. Not so much.

I spun the arm off and realized the cut spring went in sideways and got pressed tight in the hole.
Ugggghh. I managed to agitate it with a small drill bit, hoping the twist in the bit would grab into the spring windings and pop it loose.
Viola! it worked. Cut another spring a turn longer, and live with a little wobble.
I will try the teflon tape thing, though the wobble is not a huge deal.

I managed to short the HT winding on the PT of this amp and burn it. Ugggghh.
I converted the output from 12au7 to EF-80 a while back and was still tinkering.

I had an AnTek torroidial PT on hand for another one of these Micro amp builds I wasn't getting around to anytime soon.
The HT voltage for the Antek is where it should be; (I had to add some zener diodes in series and a dropping resistor to the B+ on the Hammond I killed).

Had to fill the cutout and finagle a bit, but it is all good now except I need to add a terminal strip to pretty up the screen resistors.

I have been trying to squeeze in some time on acoustic almost daily the last few weeks.
Limited time to play is one of the reasons I wish I was retired.
Mostly chord change and strumming skill / pattern practice.
Forgot most of the songs or parts I had learned in the past.

This budget Yamaha FG700 is a very good player. I tuned the nut slots and saddle height some time ago.
It is kind of dull sounding. The strings are probably a year old but not much play time.
I don't recall if it sounded better when they were new.

My youngest was gifted a Yamaha acoustic from an uncle. While not a Martin, Gibson, Taylor, etc….. it sounds really good. I did some setup on it for him and helped make it play easier. Action was too high. Definitely replace the strings. On acoustic I’d recommend Elixers. All brands sound great new, but elixer’s last longer.

Friday, we got together to jam for the first time since early December. I have been too beat up from work and a never ending Ulnar Nerve problem in my left arm to make me have much motivation these days. But, music is excellent therapy, and we got to play. And, play we did. Tom decided to "spare us" by not using his 4x15 Acoustic cab with the 360/361 set up he usually uses, but went for the 1x18 301(?) rig instead. It's still the John Paul Jones at Madison Square Garden rig, and it was fun to be able to turn up. I have to say that I love my ES 335, and I just can't get enough of the JTM45 sound. I was able to turn up to the point of as David Gilmour says, "Being able to lean back against the sound and have it pick you up." It's actually fun that we all have such weird tastes in music. Along with some of my originals and a couple of covers (Pink Fairies and Hawkwind), we jammed on some fun chord changes that kind of took off into the stratosphere. Just the ES 335 and JTM with only a bit of delay turned up loud sounds amazing. I had no need for any of my boost pedals. Just used the guitar's volume knobs for boosting my pickups. Hopefully we won't wait as long to play again.

I got this beater Squier SE cheap and did some fixer upper on it. Plays and sounds great.
Full Fender size and thickness body, nice neck with a little thicker C profile than typical.
Road rig on FL vacation trip this last week.

Most would be surprised how well they play.
I know because I have a few of them, and have sold a couple.

Congratulations on a fine axe

Yep. A Squier.

I had the opportunity to hang out with Jeff and his band for the night at a show in Yarmouth, NS in '92. They were fantastic, and very funny. It was one of the best nights of my life. My ferry, and then motorcycle rides the next day were not much fun though. What a blast the night before though.

As for my own muse, our back-up drummer asked to jam Friday night. You can't say no. We had a good time. Played the ES_335 and Eric Johnson Strat through the Matamp. Again very loud, because Tom has new neighbors who need to be broken in. Really digging the amp, and the chunky V shaped neck on the Strat.

Was on Thurs at my bro's Rock School gig. Taken from video. Lots of editing to do still. Used the R1960 LP and the purple Schecter.
Next to an 8 foot gerb!! Such fun.

Well….playing with the tiny, fuzz based, board tonight. Out through the 18watt homebrew…into a 1x12. I’ve been sub’ing in “first in line” boosters… I started with a treble booster. Moved to a clean boost. On to a Red Llama. Finally, tonight, I tried to clean up my homebrew Tube Screamer(the foot switch has been kinda crusty, and crotchety). I’ve had a good time with all, and all have different attributes that make them shine. Tough choice…but the Treble Booster is king of my hill, still…but it belongs on the big board, really.
Anyway… here’s the axe of the evening….the one giving the noise gate a workout…
IMG_2695.jpeg…The Gibson SG Standard P90…I need to take some better pictures of this one, but….every time I pick it up, I lose time…and just jam away on it. It’s so buttery to play, and yet sometimes so brutal.

Love that guitar, Youbastarddon! I wish I could come over to your neck-of-the-woods and bring my white SG (P-90 Special) and wank out till the cows run away screaming! We could call ourselves: Ebony and Ivory…
