The essential element to the Marshall Chorus is stereo output.
If it were mono, it would sound bland and ordinary.
The 8200 is a stereo amp, with 2 speakers required.
Like most of ideas....flawed. Thanks for setting it straight though....

+1 on the HK amp. Not the same, but I owned a HK Tri-Amp, it was a monster, but just way to heavy. Another thought, try a Marshall JTM series, they dish out plenty of distortion. I have a JTM-30, it has an XF loop as well as onboard reverb, the also come in a 50 watt version and are still relatively cheap on Reverb.

The Dumble design has a secret.
And we will not disclose the secret out of respect for Alexander.
But this is what makes a Dumble different. Why it sounds soooo killer.
But I will give a hint: it has something to do with the parts layout.
The reverb on the JTM is pretty decent.I'm looking at ways to reduce my board down to maybe 24"

Amp audition?I have a high respect Alexander Dumble. I passed his amp audition back in 1978 that's how you get the order forms.
Yes it's a stereo power amp.Ok....that makes sense...so the 8280 Bi-Chorus 2x12 Combo would offer the stereo effect in stand-alone fashion, correct???
I call BS you tell me what serial number you played they are all different made for the artist that passed the audition
have a ball

I never heard anything good about the JC120s distortion. Its cleans are the stuff of legends and probably the best there is for that sound. Biggest two complaints i always heard was heavy as hell and bad distortion. Ive heard of folks liking it as a pedal platform but ive never heard if that's including distortion pedals into the equationYes it's a stereo power amp.
That's what makes it sound so killer, a Doppler effect.
A Leslie isn't too bad but it's large and heavy.
Robin Trower was using a big ol Leslie or 2.
The Roland Jazz Chorus is a stereo power amp dependent on 2 speakers, but the distortion sounds like ass. The cleans of JC is pretty good. But when it's pushed hard it sounds like crap. It sounds like a transistor radio with a weak battery.

The sad part is Robert I did live in LA 1977-1980 fast forward to now all the people I know from then moved to Nashville
Im still curious over this " amplifier audition" thing. Is it a concept where you have play in front of Howard Dumble and if he thinks you're worthy, he builds you an amp? LolThe sad part is Robert I did live in LA 1977-1980 fast forward to now all the people I know from then moved to Nashville
