The Marshall not so Appreciated Thread

On the outside chance I might buy a low watt used ss Marshall practice amp with some effects, what are the ones to AVOID?

All this Code 25 talk lately and all..
If a garage sale find pops up I want to know my way around a bit.

The cheapest ones are the MG's.
Not junk, just looked down upon by the cork sniffers.
Next up are the Valvestates. Very decent amps, one 12AX7 in the preamp section.
I have an older JCM 800 series SS model 5010 Master Lead Combo that I love. (30 watts) Sounds great to me.
Good luck in your tone hunt. Lotsa deals out there just waiting to be found.

I had a Silver Jubilee 20 watt mini stack (not micro stack). At the time, my Gibson Sonex was my main guitar. All I got was mostly treble, no mids and few lows. I sold the amp and guitar. I've been happier ever since. Just my experience.

I bought a MG50 in 2002 for my music students. Good tone. Very quiet. Great Reverb. Most people frown on the solid state Marshalls.

I loved Marshall's. They helped pay the bills! Alway had one one the bench and three more lined up on the floor. They were always dropping like aids infested funny-boys and junkies! I'd fix em. Few months later another part of the circuits would fry! The most reliable amp ever made, as you could rely on it to die on ya. :poo::LOL:

I pushed my SLP hard for years and never had it break on me...and it was old when I got it...

The old Master Lead Series from the 1980's can still be had for reasonable price.
