The Kemper Thread:

Well, if ya a got a Chevy engine, why not put it in a Chevy body :dood: . The Kemper folks did just that with the Kabinet. They know what the profiler does and had a custom speaker made for it. Only 25 lbs and easy to transport.(P.S., I know Robert’s a Ford guy, just taking his chain :pound-hand: ).

Indeed, it looks like a fine piece of engineering. Their non powered cab is more expensive than the QSC I linked previously, and the Kemper Kabinet still requires a power amp(either the Kemper head or rack with the onboard amp, or an external amp- of which the choices are expanding quickly, thanks to the platforms success).
I was very close to pulling the trigger on the “Stage” model a couple/few months ago, but decided to upgrade/update my studio computer instead. The Kabinets and Kones were just popping up around here, and they look really interesting...but they don’t have an integrated “amp In cab” version (That I’ve yet seen)...that would be an ideal companion to the “Stage” model. Although, as @syscokid pointed out, other manufacturers are producing powered cabs at a premium.
I already have four powered P.A. cabs kicking around here that would do the job with the Kemper Stage(aside from the main P.A. system in the studio). Two of them are also suitable for bass guitar, and I occasionally run them with a UA 6176 as a preamp/compressor for that purpose. They make for a fairly small, but really big sounding rig. I just keep going back to regular amps...I’ll probably take the plunge someday soon though, but I’m leaning toward the Rack or Head versions now.

I don't always play where a PA is available to me for guitar. With 6 of us in this band, plus a keyboard, we are out of XLR's.

What would be great is a Kemper Floorboard/amp that could drive a cabinet.

I don’t understand why they don’t make one. Seems like it would be a big seller. They obviously know how to build a 600 watt power amp in the head.

Agreed. But the powered speaker I previously linked to would pair up perfectly with the Kemper Stage, be portable at a shade over 36Lbs, be plenty loud at over 120dB, and fairly inexpensive at around $500 US.
It would function as a stand-alone rig, capable of feeding a PA(if necessary), requiring only carrying the cab, the pedalboard, cables, guitars, and any stands needed. If I were using only one guitar, I could carry all of that gear in to a gig in one trip from my car.

Hmmm...i might have to look into that angle. Thanks for pointing it out!!!

You’re welcome.
...and let me put it this way; the entire rig that I outlined, guitar, stand, Kemper Stage, powered speaker, and cabling....all together....probably weighs less than my Mesa Dual Rectifier head alone. Your double neck would probably push it overweight, slightly.

edit: nope....I just looked up the spec on the dual rec head, and it looks like the outlined rig would go over by about 15Lbs...sorry...I thought the dual rec was heavier.

I'm looking at all the options...

Reducing the DSL40C to a head would lighten it up, but also make for a smaller unit.

I've seen birch speaker boxes too. Plus, the DV Mark is a 150 watt, single 12" box weighing only18 pounds, so there are some short-term solutions to the weight issues...

....but then there’s still a pedal board....the Kemper is supposed to eliminate that...pretty much. With the exception of the odd stuff.

I want it to be able to double as a bass rig too...and I’m not able to find anything on the Kone or Kone Kab that says it is capable of taking that kind of punishment. The profiler does bass amps too....but they only write about using FRFR or traditional bass cab’s for that purpose.

Robert, I know this is a Kemper thread. but your idea of weight reduction has been done to great success by a personal friend with his Mesa Mk II Combo. He took the amp part out and made a small cab for it and that lightened up his load to just the Amp, and he could use the combo cab as a 1x12, or use his amp with bigger speaker cabs or house boards, etc

bassits need not apply..................
like peaveys VYPRY claims it does bass.....................BUWAHAHAHAHAH -- no --no it does NOT

so you gotta buy a special cabinet to "get the fool sound of the fake models of the profiled tones "---- uhm 0f real amps?

MAN I got some desert here in FL to sell ya'll come on down BRING $$$$$$

WHy not get a 45.00 used fender mustang amp and mic it ?

I know --- I know your all gonna say its not an EXACT profiling device-- -----

I dont know much but I do know this for 100 % Gospel-- I sound like :poo: on a 1 watt Blackstar..........going into a 30 year old 12" Peavey Speaker with "free" Melody Maker

so --- Ill sound like :poo: through a kemper ....a the sound board at Capital Records-- or the house speakers at the Hollywood Bowl too
;)

Im nothing if not consistent BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Nice!! Is that an LP Special with 2 P90s?

The Kemper is allowing me to enjoy all my guitars more. Sometimes you pick up a guitar and it just is not paired well with a particular amp or cab. If you are lucky enough to have options, you can switch heads, or cabs or EQ settings, but on an average night where you are just trying to steal some playing time, that can get tedious. With the Kemper, within a few clicks, I have the right match for my strat, or les paul, or PRS , or P90s, or whatever. Going forward, you can even make notes on the profile to remind yourself which matches work best and then just do a search!

The bass stuff sounds great with the Kemper. It’s the Kemper speaker that I don’t trust to my bass punishment. The Kemper would probably sound great through my Peavey cabs....with a power amp.
BASS PUNISHMENT --------yes............. ;)
takes serious BALLS to hold up to a good punishing via bass ;)

somebody send me a KEMPER Ill test "swamp farm" style ;)
