So, I tried the Impossible Whopper today. I specifically ordered it without tomatoes so as to minimize things that could mask the taste.

My impressions?

The look, texture, and density are similar to a hamburger patty - not identical, but similar. Though, it is much more like one of those thin, preformed patties you might buy in the frozen section at the store.

The taste ain’t quite there. It doesn’t taste “bad”. I ate it okay. But, you can definitely taste that the burger is “different”. It doesn’t taste like a regular, beef hamburger. Also, it is a little drier than a beef patty.

lol--

now I am no vegan---my ex wife did a vegan "stint" so I have had the hot dogs---"bacon" and meat substitutes---and while they were not as good-- they were "edible"
say on a BLT or some such -- cooked right youd hardly know if not TOLD--- B.K. used to sell a "Morningstar Farms" whopper Jr-- with all the trimmings -- it was edible.

I do find (and myself I include) that the mass produced pre packaged and RE NAMED "cuts" --- certainly do make things easier to buy and consume---
Delmonico or New York Strip seem much easier to pallet than Bessies left FlAnk 6 inches in..... Porkys rib 1-6 etc.
I have always stated that IF (as nature intended) we had to look our diner in the eye and kill/clean/butcher/preserve/and cook it --there would be a LOT MORE vegans in the world ...
HELL -- I dont USE PEDALS because Im lazy --- if I had to hunt and butcher my dinner ............oh Hell that is WAY TO MUCH work --- Say hello to more SALAD ;)

We've been getting the Impossible Burgers since even before Burger King was selling them. My wife and I eat very little meat so we try all the different alternatives, some good some less so. I like the IB's okay but actually prefer black bean burgers. We haven't cut meat out of our diet 100% but we are inching closer to that, largely because of ethical reasons but also because I have noticed that the less meat I eat the better I feel. Right now I have meat once every week to 10 days.

I've tried 'Impossible Burgers' at a couple different restaurants. Both times, they were really tasty. Not sure if the restaurants are buying these as frozen pre-shaped patties. From what I've heard, there's a very small margin of error in cooking the IB's properly. Costco's sells the 'Beyond Meat' frozen pre-shaped patties. Almost bought a package to try until I looked at their nutritional label: 4oz patty has 350mg's of sodium!

like with most things -- give UP 1 thing -- 10 more hit you---
no cholesterol YEAH

personally I try to eat LESS at a time and more times a day ---
for instance I go with the Whopper JR. when at BK
which falls "in the middle" of the other two sammiches---(nutritionally) -- and I hate BK fries -- and rarely drink soda (unless there is rum ;) ) -- so Ill hit the drvie through and snag A-- whooper JR ......and Im good (with my water I carry with me always) -- and on down the road

more "perplexing" to me is
why do P90 pups hum and sizzle-- and P94 pups (supposedly HUMBUCKER SHAPED P90's --) are as quiet (or quieter) than humbuckers?

There is a reason other than saturated fat which makes people eat meat alternatives.

[this is where I was going to post the disturbing picture of animal slaughter]

Watched all those movies and videos about animal slaughter and I still prefer meat!

You want to stop eating something? Watch the videos on High Fructose Corn Syrup. It's extremely bad for you
and they try and put it in everything you buy. It's the only thing I selectively seek out and avoid!

High Fructose Corn Syrup.
That stuff and sodium is everywhere. Earlier today, while reading through some crazy articles on the internet, and in regards for foods to be not consumed, one of the foods was packaged flour wraps ( flour tortillas ). The ingredient to look out for is called 'L-cysteine, a "dough conditioner" made from human hairs and poultry feathers.'

#69. Flour Wraps....

Right on! But the thing is, most processed food nowadays seems to be much worse in sodium levels and quality than they were 30 years ago, and these alternative ones seem to be some of the worst.

I checked a package of veggie sausage the other day and Jeeeeesus, it was like each unit contained several grams of salt. Not to mention the stuff it was actually made of.

Man, salad and cheese for me if I have to skip the meat.

True.

I’ve been trying to avoid processed food as much as possible. This includes processed meat products AND processed vegetable products. I haven’t been able to completely eliminate them, but I’m doing my best to avoid them as much as I can.

I try never to add salt. If a recipe calls for salt, I omit it. What a lot of folks forget is that sodium occurs naturally in a large percentage of the foods we eat even if salt is not added during preparation. Plants uptake sodium from the soil and meat often contains some amount of sodium, as well. Of course, our bodies need salt but too much is a major contributor to hypertension.

We don't use any added salt either. My wife and I focus on a plant-based, whole foods heavy diet. We eat meat rarely (again, the less the better, and we don't ever buy processed meat products) and while we do buy processed foods from time to time we are very careful about what we select and do what we can to ensure healthy ingredients. Never anything out of a can or a box. Never any soft drinks. Heck, we don't even buy dairy products that are made in the US any more.

Ancillary thought on this: The older I get the more I wonder what the fascination with meat even is. I honestly thing It's really not that good - there are so many more tasty ways to get protein from plants. Bacon in particular...I just don't get the worship, I think it's kind of disgusting.
