The Great Gary Moore

Gary always ran his amps flat-out. Notice how he rolls the volume off after every lick to keep it from feeding back!!!

Man, if he was running that SLO flat out everyone in that room lost some of their hearing that night. I played through one and it was at full-tilt gig volume at around 3 on the master.

During this period, (1992) Gary used a Soldano SLO100 & HR50, until 1993 when he started using Marshall exclusively. The SLO100 was usually used for the clean tones, and the HR50 for the dirty tones. Gary would say in an interview that the Marshall's were more reliable. Both of the amps were hooked up to a Marshall 1960 B 4 x 12″ cabinet fitted with EV 12M speakers.

I never much listened to him until I heard him with Cream; sounded better than their original guitarist...

I really dig this album. Gary Loved Peter Green (and of course, he owned Green's old Les Paul) and does a very nice tribute here. I always felt that the first blues albums Moore did were a bit too over the top; too much gain, too much hard rock playing and not enough restraint, but here he is damn near perfect.

I dig a lot of his older work, and "Black Rose" by Thin Lizzy is a fantastic album in my opinion. I don't think it gets the love it deserves.

Thank you. This is what I shall listen to at work today.

I am a mere mortal and in no position to question the likes of Gary Moore, but if he said that he is the only person ever to say a Soldano is less reliable than a Marshall.

I can't comment either....maybe he meant from being knocked about on the road???
