The Future of Live...or Not So Live Concerts...

This has been going on for years.
Geddy Lee doesn't really exist.
He's a holographic projection.

You can see one of the projectors bottom left.
It's cleverly disguised as a monitor.

Agreed........125% with a Cherry on top......spoiled product of Hollywood Califronication at its finest. Id like to "Curly slap" his bald head with an SG "WHO" style baby

IMG_5767.JPG That is on the very sick side of life. Frank worked very hard at creating a new music.
The thing Frank was cool about was the fact that you will hear a guitar solo that will never be played the same ever again. Each of his solos are a one time thing. Now he's poop chute children will steal that from Frank. Every one will hear and look at the same show no matter. Pre packaged Zappa!

That is one of the things I like about Frank....he and I have the same style --- I never play the exact same thing twice----- I dont KNOW WTF I am playing the first time so recreating it is virtually impossible........but its fun to not be "tied down" by things like notes and "keys" and all that "structure" ugh

I'm surprised no-one has yet mentioned the ridiculous amount of lip-synching that supposedly live acts employ to achieve that "just like the record" sound at concerts. I'm thinking particularly of watching televised performances by Dolly Parton at Glastonbury and ELO in Hyde Park last year, both of which just didn't sound "live" to my ears. And I bet they're the tip of the iceberg.

I'm pretty sure it has even been used on Later With Jools Holland. Certainly when Sheryl Crow was on the sound was way too perfect for a live band with perfect balance, no spill, no natural acoustics and an unfeasibly skillful level of playing in a live environment (That is Sheryl's bass playing didn't seem to match the sound coming out of the TV speakers).

I feel more and more cheated by this. It's bad enough with programmed synths and sequencers with just a live vocal, but this is getting far beyond a reasonable means of reproducing a passable version of the studio recorded songs - in fact it's a fraud being perpetuated on a gullible public (most of whom are probably recording the gig on their phones anyway!) who should wake up and protest in the strongest means available - WITH THEIR MONEY!!!!

Seeing an artist live should mean hearing them play live and nothing else.

Same thing with me. I make it up as I go along. That applies to life as well, I play sloppy and live sloppy. There is not one thing about me that is perfect or even in the ball park.

I think it's an insult to Frank Zappa's legacy to have a prerecorded and a hologram performance.
I didn't see Frank live but I'm a fan. I did see Dio live though. I can't imagine going to see a hologram performance.

I saw Frank more than any other artist I've seen...a total of 8 times from 1973 to 1988. I can assure you he would have hated this idea...

I saw Zappa at Carnegie Mellon University several times. I went to college there and he was at his absolute best in the early to mid 70s. This sick ass ghost view thing would freak me out and for certain sicken me. This is a shame and those kids should be a shamed. Hopefully they will lose a great deal of money.
