The Ergonomics Of A Les Paul Guitar...

Pickguards depend on the guitar for me. A burst needs a pickguard. Seems naked without. Gold top 50/50.
The Bengal burst doesn't need it.

I'm really anxious to receive my Les Paul Modern and try out the back relief at the neck joint. Only a couple more months.
Oh you will love it! Sculpting on the back to fit a belly, well, yours is gone, but mine.....
Beautiful high fret access. I like having different styles instead of 3 or 4 of the same thing. Can't wait go see yours.

I'm fine and comfortable playing an LP, pick guard or not IF:
1. I am standing; I dont play anything really comfortable seated, especially LP types.
2. It weighs in under 9lbs
3. The nut width is 1-11/16"; for some reason the Agile I had with the 1-5/8" nut gave me trouble even though Fender strat / tele types do not. I was somewhat in denial over it for a time, but finally stopped fighting it.

All 3 of the LP types I have fit these parameters and that Agile that didnt has moved on.

I played two (3) hour shows Saturday. Les Paul's just aren't comfortable to me...but in all fairness...a lot of that is because of the massive, 1-3/4" neck width on my Stratocaster. With huge fingers, it makes everything just so easy.

Plus the Stratocaster weighs only 4.7 pounds.

It's preference of course!

Exactly this for me too. Although I have been getting along with the DuoSonic [24" even] when I need to do some stretched out chording stuff.

My YelloStrat just has this amazing overall feel. The super wide neck, Ultra light weight and 17k DiMarzio Neanderthal and twin hum canceling single coils, just gives it this amazingly versatile feel.

Yeah, like a boat anchor. :pound-hand:

Strange thing is, all that weight is a big part of it. I love it - there is something weirdly reassuring about the heavy ones. I'm a pretty big guy, 6'4" and in non-covid times when I can go to the gym every day I run about 220-225 (I lost over 20 pounds when the gyms closed down last year and just starting to build it back). So the weight isn't so much of an issue and I really like the way a good, heavy Les Paul feels on the strap.

By the end of 2, (3) hours sets, my 9lb Les Paul is pretty heavy.
