"Battle of the Bands 1968-1980"
3 of the Who's 12 studio albums were prior to this timeframe, with 2 in '67 and their first in '66.
This disqualifies them?

So, we should also eliminate every band that made an album after 1980, like Judas Priest.
No no, not at all. It just seemed to me like the majority of their stuff was in tne mid to late 60s, which it wasn't. Just what I thought as I am not a fan. I always think of them as a late 60s, early 70s band. No one is disqulified for that but it could hurt if they made 2 alhums in 68 and 69 and another band made 8 in the 70s for example IMO.

I took the Who over Sabbath, the who had a few, not bad songs, but in reality was not a big fan of eithier band.

This whole contest is tough. So many of my favorite bands.
But, there is only one that literally changed the course of my life: Black Sabbath. The first time I heard Sabbath altered everything I thought I knew about music and opened the door to a lifetime of exploring heavy music.

I was quite uneasy about what might happen to The Who against Priest in this matchup given my time on TTR and what I thought was my insight on membership here. I am glad I was wrong.

Being proved is there's been a smaller minority of metal miners here who tend to be more upfront and post more often. But, I respect you all.

The best of it is there's also certain number of members who recognize true musical game, critical listeners voting against their initial "fist in the air" instincts.

I say this as a dude who has probably given somewhat equal time both these groups both as a mediocre guitar player and ever more casual listener.
