My Great Uncles and Grandfather all fought in WWII
Uncle Mack was a Marine --fought in the South Pacific-- was AT the raising of the flag over Iwo Jima --- had pics he took of the event.
Grandfather was a motorcycle courier and on the Front lines in Normandy
One uncle was there at Auschwitz when they liberated the camp....
Dad was a medic in Vietnam.
I can say their views of the world and their fellow man are different from mine--- and much more so than my sons

not certain if one view is better or worse--right or wrong--just ......different

I noticed, as I got older -- that it varied from man to man TBTH
Uncle Mack was very racist in all quarters--- gruff rough ass kicker till the end. (Marine)
My Father, and Grandfather spoke VERY VERY little of their service--- took zero pride in it---didnt "leverage" their service like some vets do --- they didnt show any prejudice that I could really pinpoint
Uncle Ed that was at Auschwitz was more "tainted" than the other two --- cussed Mercedes and Volkswagen's said he would never "contribute"---certainyl was very affected by what he saw--- but in a more muted manner ----not as GUNG HO about it as Mack ---

Mack had a basement full of old war pics....ammo --shells---guns a sword flags and a tiki bar with coconut husk cover --- all very cool to a kid--- but as I grew up I learned more of what it was and why. Grandfather never spoke of it most of life--- toward the end we came on some pics and I asked him--- he discussed a little about his motorcycle courier stint---and some other things-- always artfully avoiding actual combat--- "war stories" etc. as did Dad..... they seemed to feel it was braggadocios.....

Mack would tell anyone all about in full living color and detail------

Guess like I say--- depends on the person as to how it effected them

I seem to have a problem dry-cleaning with my very white laundry. Does anyone have a BIC lighter on them? I'm throwing a party on my front lawn later tonight. Any assistance is very much welcome...thank you sirs and mames.

I'll send you a paddle so that you can row across lake Ontario just east of Toronto where I live. Hope you can make it. We'll have a bonding moment together me friend!

We do get close to up that way (Lake Placid - WhiteFace, Malone & Plattsburg) once in a while & try to hit the Adirondack region at least once or twice a year so a get together is not out of the realm of possibility ya know.

I've been wanting to hit the Thousand Island region (actually 1864 islands!) & chill during the long daylight hours of late spring / early summer..



Quite the unique & beautiful area..



Not only is there nature, islands & water... they've got bloody castles too!





A nice steamboat tour would be awesome too! You like them old steamers B??
