That Other Forum....

So any of you guys that know me know I was the administrator on that other forum. I had to take a hiatus for a while due to my dad's health issues, I became his live in 24/7/365 caregiver. After his passing I got back on said forum (it had been sold by then.) and noticed that I was no longer admin and was just regarded as a "well known member". Meanwhile my moderators had all retained their positions.

Needless to say I was a little pissed, I did a lot to improve that place, but everything I did had been undone.
I popped on now and then, but felt it had become a bit boring, in fact, I still go on there every now and then but I don't post much.

I recently received a message from WavMixer to check this place out...... I did and found it to be much more comfortable and also saw a lot of other members have come over here. Topics are good, layout is good and the general public here seem a lot more friendly, so I think I'll be staying awhile, besides, you guys need another trouble maker!

Thanks Wav for the invite..... Party Time!!!! :);):p:rolleyes:

VERY Glad to see you here.
And we can ALWAYS use another troublemaker !!!!!

Enjoy---relax---kick back fix a Mai Tai or 12 and groove on the vibes the gang be laying down ;)

Welcome aboard guitarweasel! I know which forum you are talking about. I got banned from there for no apparent reason. I felt a bit pissed but what can you do?

;>)/

glad to see you here Weasel. I was a newbie on t'other forum in like 2009, and that was
when you were active. So I remember that I learned a lot from reading your posts.

One of the things that happened while you were on hiatus was a total reorganization of the site
with new software. That was the idea of who ever is really in charge there. It was badly needed
because the site was abysmally slow in its old (familiar to you) format. So the new leadership
liquidated the basic structure of the site, and rebuilt it as you see now.

However, the worst aspect of that "improvement" of the site was that the archives disappeared.
All of that excellent source material, all the pictures, all that work... Presto disappearo!
I think I had constructed three gallery there, and they went by the board also. Drifting somewhere
in cyberspace.
That left us with a community, but with no roots, no library, no reference materials to answer the questions that
always pop up when new guys come aboard:
"Hi Y'all, I just bought this old SG from gawd knows when... can anybody tell me what it is, when it was
made, and what it's really worth? It's got a pick guard like a Les Paul, and the knobs are mounted in a
plastic plate on the front. It doesn't look like any SG I've ever seen, but it sounds killer. I paid $750
for it. It's not a fake, is it?"

Anyway, I and some of us others did object to the loss of the heart and soul of the site, but no answer
was ever given to me, nor did I hear that any answer was ever given to anyone who bitched. *shrugs
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

So here we are, building a village on this here Desert Island. Glad you dropped in.

Yeah thats not right what they did to u im aure this site is more busy then that one lol
Im glad i was told about this place its much better

It still troubles me,,,,,,,,,,, Ummm why has the resource material disappeared, and ummmm why has it been impossible to get it back?
Not sure my pea brain can figure out how a forum server swap can't absorb that catalogue of data etc?

Yeah, a lot was lost, I put in a lot of work on that forum just to see it vanish. We had archives of information, we were gaining sponsorships, we had contests, myself and other staff members being invited to vendors, we went to the NAMM shows, we were even recognized by Gibson as a authoritative forum of information, but most of all we had a tight community bond, now it's just like almost every other lame ass forum. Btw, the dude that bought it also owns the Marshall, Martin and believe it or not, owns the my les paul forum and a couple more.

I'm really glad to see what you guys have done here in such a short amount of time, these are the kind of forum's that really mean something, lets keep it coming, keep it real, you'll have a crowed here in no time. If there is anything I can do to help, just give me a shout, I'd really like this place to succeed where the others have failed.

Can't dispute a thing you said, Wease. When it was taken over and the "new" forum was integrated, I didn't like it, and I said so. I then got a PM from the Administrator basically saying shut up, or get banned. I wasn't too happy, but toed the line for a while.
I can recall having a whole thread deleted by the Admin because he thought it was "off topic and negative"... I asked a question and got a HEAP of responses, and I think he thought there was going to be a revolt or something. He PM'd me, with what was basically a threat. What a douche.
That PM was deleted "somehow" but I still have one from another member asking what happened regarding that thread.
Now I just lurk and occasionally add my 2c worth, but most of the time, I just can't be bothered with it anymore. The last time I was there was to PM some of the "cool" members to send invites to join here!

Sounds like the administrator is a real control freak. And people over at the Marshall forum are a bunch of dicks! This forum suits me just fine. I'm glad to see you on here Alex. Keep coming back...you don't have to lurk here me friend.;)
