Tell Me About Dean USA...

Been looking at some of their top of the line electrics. Anyone have first hand playing knowledge?

I dig the Icon Series, the GranSport Series and the Thoroughbred Series!

I am not sure about the USA made Deans.

I have a Select, made in Indonesia.....It's a very well made guitar and it rivals my usual main guitar. It's my second in line.

I have no first hand playing knowledge of a US Dean. Therefore, I am just :poo:ting on your thread lol

My expectations would be very high for a USA Dean, is what I'm sayin', I suppose.

Ive been to the Factory--- Ive seen the builds-- the guys the machines---
its small batch very very hands on --- high end-- nice stuff
the usa made pups are wound right here in Tampa-- all the work (USA CUSTOM SHOP STUFF) including repairs and protypes are all done just 35 minutes from my house
(they wont sell ya "factory seconds" out the back door though I tried!)

YES that is THE ACTUAL JACKET

and here is MY ACTUAL MIT on the custom Dave Mustaine guitar being built FOR DAVE when I was there (or so this guy said -- who claims to build ALL DAVES guitars)

My guitar teacher from the early eighties was one of the first Dean artists. He was playing the Dean Razorback long before Dimebag Darryl.

Fine, fine guitars, hesitate to say this but they are some of the best feeling and playing guitars manufactured.

That said, could never get past that headstock.

I met the o.g. of Dean, Dean Zelinsky in Chicago for my teachers showcase when they got signed, brought some Dean girls with him, God love Dean!

Like @eSGe stated, quality, quality.

ANd now --- as usual Chris -- you have me looking around the room and contemplating what I can trade off to get a DEAN back in me stable---

Ive had several (mostly basses) but a couple electrics and none sucked-- not one bit--

Some of the 99.00 low end Vendettas and things arent STELLAR --- they are what you would expect

The USA stuff is spendy-- but -- well crafted small batch stuff -- comparatively

I like the Headstock actually---
and -not all the models have the headstock wing
here is a neck through bass I scored at a pawn shop for --as I recall -- about 120.00
active pups excellent instrument--

I bought this last year. Top notch quality and versatile tone from the pup combos. The unique feature is the back of the neck which is 3D-ed to reduce the surface area your palm touches. Less wood for you to get stuck on while sweating.

I love my Dean. It's not a USA made one.
It's a Korean made ML Switchblade.
The thing oozes quality. Perfect frets, ebony board, nice binding, flamey top, even though it a veneer, Floyd.
But it's HUGE. Aircraft carrier huge.
It's surprisingly light for it size.
Plays easy but knocks over everything in the room due to the exaggerated size.

It was my 60th birthday present to myself.
Now I just need a photography class or better glasses.

This headstock is not so bad. Not overly done like the big Dean headstock...
