Taylor Guitars----wow

I spent 2 hours in GC today. I played about 2 dozen guitars, but my purchase possibilities went like this
- Yamaha FX335c - $200
- Yamaha FGX800c - $300
- Taylor 114ce $800
- Taylor 314ce - $1800

And so it goes. Now, if I follow my usual pattern, I will slowly convince myself I should have one, then that I must have one and then I will find the one I cannot pass up. It should take longer than with electrics since they are not as amenable to internet purchases (or are they?).

Another very good acoustic guitar is Carvin. You may have to risk an eBay purchase, but another friend of mine had a Carvin acoustic. It sounded very nice.

Yeah I almost got the Yamaha fg800 but the washburn was better feeling and sounding so I went with it and I don't think I'm going to regret it either.
It sounds pretty damn good I will work on the neck and set up later se if I cant get it a bit lower and put some new martin strings on her.
Holy crap, I missed this! Is there a NGD thread?

Me too I was down at the new Amsterdam starring at some yellow haired girlMr Jones strikes up a conversation with a
blackhaired flamenco dancer she dances while his father plays guitar . sha la la la la yeah .
Now I have to hear that song

So, I played another dozen acoustics today. I am narrowing down. Here is where I am at.

I like the Yamaha FGX800c ($300) BUT

Now quite as much as the Taylor 114ce ($800) BUT,

I do not think the Taylor is 2x as good for 2x the price AND

I like the Talyor 314ce even better than the other 2 ($ 1,800) BUT

I do not think the 314ce 2.2x as good as the 114ce or 6x as good as the Yamaha AND

each of the guitars of the same type sound quite different.

ADVICE PLEASE! Acoustics give me stress!

RVA,

You must practically ignore name brand. Selecting an acoustic guitar is really a matter of sampling one at a time.

It's a really personal...almost intimate thing.

I actually think that I want my next acoustic to have no electronics in it whatsoever.

If I ever play out with it, it will have to be mic'ed, old school.

Thanks Smitty. This is actually on the basis of direct comparison of three actual guitars. I gravitated toward Taylor and Yamaha because I like a bright sound. If the\y were all the same price, the choice would be easy - Taylor 314ce. But the prices are way different where as he quality of tone is somewhat different. The electronics are the same story good - better - best, but nothing that matches the price differences. The sales people were also filling my head with ideas that solid wood will age better, etc.

If I am going to heed what I just wrote, it seems the Yamaha is the right choice for me, all factors considered.

Then get the Yamaha. I have a Yamaha classical guitar. They make fine instruments.
Thanks Smitty. I will go back tomorrow for day 3 trials and see f I feel the same.

But to steal from another thread, do I really need an acoustic?! After getting home after the first 2 nights of trials, I plugged in a solid body electric with piezo and thought, "Well hell, this sounds pretty close AND I can bend the damn strings..now that's a nice thing!"

I am always reticent about advising people what to do with their money.

Perhaps, I am a bit too romantic for my own good...but an acoustic guitar is a special thing.

To me, there is a special, "something," about that zone that is totally separate from electricity.

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll chime in anyway...
I'm a longtime Taylor owner & player.
I've had my 312CE since 2001 and got my 12 string 354CE about 5 years ago.
I love em'
Sick low action and infinite adjustability.
Neck resets can be performed in minutes with shims, not days with hot hide glue and a steam kettle.
Very stable and dependable guitars.
Just starting to notice some minor fretwear on the older one at the "cowboy chord frets.

Just my 2 cents worth.
