Taylor 314ce v. Martin DCPA4

Well, it looks like I have boiled it down to these 2 choices.

There seem to be better deals on the Martins.

Taylor 314ce

Martin DCPA4 (I looked at the DCPA5K - I can justify the extra $$ for me)

Why aren't those guitar stores open earlier. I need to play in a humidified room!!!!!

buwahhahhhaaaaaaa

Sounds like you need to get a humidifier for YOUR man cave----- I have a DEhumidifier here in the swamps ---

I will box up some humidity (average runs in 70-90% range here) and send you some ;)

Oh and I like the Taylors better whenever I am in the stores playing them back to back to my hand and ear the Taylors of a similar $$$ range to the Martins just sound and feel better......MHO

All my guitars are kept in a room which is humidified in the winter and dehumidified in the summer. I call it my Fortress of Solitude!

As for the comparison, I agree and I have always preferred Taylor. However, I have played some rather "bright" Martin's lately that were also a bit more playable that made me think twice. We shall see.

To me, it seems like you've narrowed the field to winners only.
Close your eyes and pick one, you can't go wrong with either of these fine acoustics.

Both are built to very high standards, both have excellent tone and will respond very well to setup.
Setup is the key factor in playability. I believe Martins are shipped with their bridges too high, so that the
buyer can tell the seller how he wants it and get it tweaked to exactitude. I've read threads on the
Martin forum by players who didn't know that. *shrugs But I've never bought a new one, so I dunno.
Both will likely outlive you and give good service for decades after the power goes out and all
the electric instruments and amps are mere artifacts of the golden age.

Now you just have to play a bunch of them, and buy the one that comes alive in your hands.
You can't order an acoustic without playing it first. Each one is unique and general statements
about their tone are not valid.

Anyway, what a cool quest to be on! You've slain the dragon, stormed the castle, and now there's a
princess up in each of two towers. Which one do you pursue?

You can't go wrong with either one. Taylors in general, feel more friendly to a predominantly electric guitarist. The Martins at first, kind of put me off. But the more I played the Martins, the more I really like them.
