So, I am on the cusp, the very verge, the precipice, of selling anything that isn't a Les Paul and using the proceeds to purchase another Les Paul. Actually have my eye on the Anaconda Burst Slash, even though I am not a particularly big fan of Slash (the package just ticks a lot of boxes for me).

Here's the thing: I love SG's, and I love Firebirds, but my one true love is Les Pauls. And the reality is that all I actually want to play is my Les Pauls. Every time I play something that is not a Les Paul it feels like a compromise and half the time I switch to one of the LP's mid-session while I am playing.

So...am I crazy? Sell off the two SGs and two Firebirds, buy another 'Paul and buy booze with the difference...What say you, good people of TTR?

Not crazy at all.

I still find the Les Paul my go-to guitar for session work. The tone, the reduced string tension, the feel is just tough to beat.

I've kinda gone back to Super-Strats (live) for tuning stability, but I am not a fan of the higher string tension on the 25.5" scale guitars.

I find my playing is more lively when not worrying about my tuning.

Don't laugh, but I'm seriously considering a USA Malmsteen Stratocaster.

Life is short...

Sell those and get a really great Les Paul and drink the rest.

I'll drink to that...

Some guitarists love variety as the spice of life. Others find one weapon and finely tune it, never leaving that course. At the end of the day, you should play what you love and inspires you.

I myself, have no loyalties per say, though some guitars I favor by that specific instrument itself ( example: my favorite in my stash is the Gibson Explorer Pro, but ive played other explorers i didnt love. I have a Gibson SG standard that I dont love as much as the same year and model that my dad owns. Only difference visually is the color but his sounds better for some reason).

If you've found a connection to Les Pauls and they are what gets you to get up and do something, then by all means stick to them. As far as selling off your other axes, ask yourself this : " Do I love them? Do i actually use them? Do they inspire me? Can I live without them?" If the answer is no on the first 3 and a yes on the last, then dont feel bad parting with them. But if the answer is the opposite on any of 4, might reconsider.

I’m not going to push in any particular direction...this choice of yours is a personal one.
That said, if you are going to re-home that gold burst SG... I would still like the chance to give it a good home.

Another vote for not crazy at all here Gball, a Les Paul does it for me too.
For decade I played SSS Strat type guitars exclusively. I still own a Strat, superstrat, tele, SG's, but since owning Les Pauls they have become my go to guitar. Nothing matches a LP for that big fat meaty slab of tone & I also find a Les Paul to be more comfortable to play than anything else (I only play standing), plus a well set up Les Paul is just a joy to play. If you only want Les Pauls, go for it. Cheers

I don't think it's crazy at all. I love many guitars, but I hate to see them languish in their cases...

If they are not being played and you want to pick up and LP every time you play something else, then why not.

Just make sure you really get what you want, and think real hard if it will fill the hole you're leaving...
 
Generally I would say that you're in the wrong place to have someone talk you out of a guitar purchase but... I don't like Les Pauls, they are just weird little guitars to me and everything about them feel wrong. I love SG's though and would never sell one in favor of an LP...

But, I'm not you and if that is how you feel then go ahead. Just askbyourself this: What will the next LP do that the ones you already have don't? ;)
 
This is actually a good conversation. If you all remember I was nuts about SG's and then Strats. But when I really started paying attention to what felt right and sounded right
the Les Paul ended up being my favorite solid body. Right now I'm also digging the h$ll out of these 335 semi-hollow guitars.

So what changed? Well, the SG was giving me too many bouts of neck dive. Sure it can be controlled, but it's a pain. The Strats...I'm not sure? They all ended up looking the
same and I only got one sound I really loved out of them. Not sure if the scale length affected me?

The Les Paul's on the other hand give me three distinct usable sounds. And the looks are just killer. So many beautiful maple tops to choose from. Guitars are not only
instruments to me, but also pieces of art!

I keep trying really hard to get down to three or four, but it's hard.

I'm waiting on that R0 to come in and when it does I will choose one or two Les Paul's and move the rest. I will keep one of the 335 types I just got, I will keep my cheap
P90 Epiphone SG and I will keep the Strat I got from Robert...that's my goal!

If I raise enough cash I'd like to get that Gjika Powers of Ten - 10^n Amplifier...
 
I have 4 Gibson LP’s 3 are tuned A440, one is D standard
The Heritage Cherry burst and Tobacco burst sound the most similar, but I still play all the others , the SG has its own tone as does the V, and my favorite strat scratches that itch, I plan on keeping them all.
What you are about to do is as big a decision I would not like to make.
