Switching from GarageBand to ??????

I watched a video on linking EZ Drummer to Reaper and followed the directions, but it doesn't populate in my VST files when I try to add a track. Not sure what I'm doing wrong there. It was super easy assigning my mics to channels for the guitar. In general it seems a lot more user friendly than Ableton.

Ableton lasted precisely ten minutes on my machine, it was unfathomable. :D
Same with me, once i started to use it got to the point, oh you can f*** off where you came from and deleted it.
Pro tools 11 is good but pricey, even you have to pay for could storage.
I used pro tools first it got annoying and I switched to reaper. Im still learning it but seems much better then what i have used to this point.

do you know how to change wave color so it records different colors in different tracks rather than manually doing it?

I’m at the dentist now...have you looked in the effects browser under “virtual instruments”?

Reaper. REAPER | Audio Production Without Limits

Low cost, low overheads. Doesn't hog the processor and runs very happily on a 2.2GHz 8GB laptop.

Simple to use. Other than downloading the tiny installer and regular updates, no internet connection required. No iLok, dongles or other silly "security".

It can use all kinds of plugins and comes with a shedload.

Reaper 6 has a free full feature 60 day trial (which will continue to work forever) but it's only $60 for a licence that will last until version 7.99, probably three or four years.

It also handles video.

Video tutorials for anything you might want to do on YouTube.

This is mine, running AIR Expand and Steven Slate Drums VSTi on MIDI tracks to make a backing track.

I second Reaper with Audacity thrown in to make things easier for me.

There are just some things that are so easy to accomplish in Audacity that I start there and then import to Reaper for the more complex stuff...

Make sure you have added the folder the plugins are in then click on Clear cache and rescan directory. Clicking on rescan without clearing the cache won’t find some new plugins.

Yeah, it isn't there. I think there is another box I have to check to make it work. As usual, when I get the cat off of me I will try that.
Sorry, the dentist thing had me away from stuff. @Kerry Brown ‘s response that I quoted below should get you there. Reaper needs to know EZDrummer is there, and where it is, to load it up. Once that path is established, it will be easy to load it up. I use it often, either just stock loops dragged and dropped etc, or using a little AKAI usb midi mini pad controller...like this-

I have figured out how to construct a drum track in EZ Drummer and drag it into a new slot in Reaper. That works fine. I did that clear the cache and rescan. Still doesn't add the folder. The link is saved above that where you initially add it in. Just nothing in the add ons.

I was also trying to turn on the export MIDI capability in EZD and it says it isn't available in the stand alone application and is grayed out.

For me, it shows up in the FX Browser under VSTi. Also under AUi, but that's a Mac thing.
Does this show up for you?

To be clear; EZDrummer does not show up in my VST effects list. It does show up in my VSTi list though...see the circled VSTi in this photo...

Click there, and see if it exists...

Nope. Already checked every single folder.
Then you will need to add the EZDrummer installed location to the list of locations in Reaper preferences-where you would scan for effects folders. You could try “auto detect” and re-scan, but....

I had Reaper on my old computer and really liked it. I wanted to add it to this one, but the cats managed to destroy this computer to the point of it barely working with only two functional USB ports. Recently, I bought a second hand laptop I plan on setting up with Reaper and the software for my Akai EIE Pro interface. Need to get a spare hard drive and a couple of other things before setting it up.
