Switchblades: Just out of curiosity...

Oh...as a Federal Officer I am allowed to carry an automatic knife, but not the gangster style stiletto. More like a larger version of the S&W

I've never seen a switchblade that wasn't a POS... Maybe some of these pictured are ok.
I prefer a good sharp blade in a good sheath. Keep it simple.
The one below is a hunting knife, made for me by an old friend. I blued the blade when he died.
It's not a weapon, and has no guard. But it's good steel and sharpens to a deadly edge.
Don't f*ck with me when I'm wearing it.

For regular carry, I prefer my Buck knife. It folds up and fits unobtrusively in its belt case, and isn't at
all uncomfortable, and it's legal where ever I go. It's also not designed as a fighting knife, and has no
guard. But I could defend my life or my lady with it. The locking blade is very strong.

IMHO, If a man feels a need to carry a weapon, he's in the wrong place. I like to avoid such places.

If that's the case you have not seen any modern tactical automatics. They are far more than OK, they are life savers!

I have made quite a few hand made knives from flat bar stock and there is really nothing better when it
comes to a fixed blade. They hold and edge like you would not believe!

Only too true... I have not seen any of the ones you describe.
I didn't try and say they don't exist, only that I had never seen one I'd be willing to own
and perhaps defend my life with. And I would believe the edge you can put on your
fixed blade knife, because I own one.

The two shivs I pictured above have been with me for a very long time. I bought the Buck knife
in the '70s, and my friend John made the other one for me in the eighties. I've field dressed many
deer with them, but never threatened a human with one. I'm just not wired that way. If someone
pushed me far enough that I drew my knife, it would be for keeps. Me or him.

I can testify that the fixed blade knife and the buck knife above both have handles that don't
slip easily, even if they are covered in blood, and the weather is so cold that your fingers begin to lose feeling.
I've always feared those blades, and feared to lose control of them
when slippery or very very cold. But my hands have managed to keep their grip on those
handles while I did necessary surgery while holding a flashlight in my mouth. That says
worlds, in the north country deer woods.

For my part, my idea of a fighting knife is the one issued by the U.S. Marine Corps. Which answers
the OP's question. Salut! Sergio... This is the K-Bar knife. When it's down to mano a mano...

No mechanism, nothing tricky, just a very strong blade with a guard to protect the fingers.
Keep it simple when your life depends on it. Just my opinion.
If any knife could punch through body armor, it might be the K-Bar.

Well said as usual Col! And I completely agree about the two shivs you posted and the Kabar. The only thing I've seen that's better is a hand made knife
based on the Kabar shape and style.

oh and to answer the original OP's question:

Switchblade knives are legal to own or carry in Michigan.

This apparently just changed, so I edited my post. I thought they
were illegal, because they were illegal for literally decades.

Until October 2017 it was illegal to own or carry a switchblade, or gravity
knife, or spring assisted knife, or automatic knife in Michigan. It was also
illegal to get one somewhere else and bring it here.

Now, all of that has been repealed. Some will cheer, most will not.
Double edged stilettos are still illegal. Go figure.

Mechanical knives have not been around the east coast in years. I like brass knuckles and they are hard to get. I got to work really early and I enter in the far back. The stupid dope heads think I bring the druges to hospital. The stuff is there when I get there. They have tried to hold me up but the guard walked out and they took off. I have a car service and the driver is to be good at self defense. Not being lucky I carry a 38 snub nose and brass knuckles. I have clipped a couple guys and the brass knuckles do a job. A cop took them and I really miss them. I don't like the knife thing it like working on my own time. I probably will get paid to patch him up.
