Super Hard On - clone

The price is remarkable. That's at least $30 in parts alone. Lots of players seem to like this type of boost. I've never had the opportunity to tried (try) one. I have a Catalinbread Super Chili Picoso, which is also a mosfet boost. But these two circuits are a little different from each other.

I do know that BYOC sells a semi-clone of the ZVEX Super Hard On for $60. BYOC adds a gain control to go along with the standard level control. Therefore, if the gain is set at the minimum, the maximum "real" clean boost will be 15dB. If gain is at maximum, the boost will be 25 db with added crunchiness.

I built mine from scratch, dirt cheap.
Remember the vol / gain pot has DC voltage on it and will crackle when turned.
Some of the Zevx ones say "crackle ok" near the pot.

They drive a tube front end very nicely.

Thumbs up so far. At unity gain, it tightens everything up, sort of like compression but with a differect effect on the dynamic range. Since it is a very high imprdence pedal, it seems like it shifts the frequency range upward toward the high end. It also provides nice natural breakup without adding a ton of volume, which is nice for us home players. Certainly worth the full price of $ 50 for the clone.
