Studio Project - Isolated Tracks

Assignment: Create a faithful rendition of the song 'Rats' by Ghost. Since I am a big Ghost fan, I was called in for rhythm guitar on this project. Many of you may not be familiar with the song (and even the group) but this was a very challenging project and the rhythm guitar parts are very intricate. The solo parts were cut by another colleague.

Here's the interesting part. I used the same 2016 Gibson SG and Blackstar 100 watt SS amp for this recording. The only real difference is this was recorded in a bona-fide studio with an engineer. The customer also has the performance rights to this song licensed by the Harry Fox Agency. It will be used on their demo.

The EQ and gain on the amp were selected for the best replication of the original song by the recording engineer and myself. I used the 'OD-2' setting, full gain Bass full, Middle at 2pm Treble at 3pm and ISF at 1/2. Further tweaks to the tone were performed in the console to suit his tastes.

This track contains my isolated and mixed tracks on my Gibson Les Paul. I threw in as many of my signature slides as I could get away with.

Keep in mind that these are post mixdown tracks that have been edited, so you may hear some effects and volume level changes, which are a normal part of the production process.

My Isolated Tracks - Ghost 'Rats' - 12/03/2018 Session (Post Mixdown)

I also have the isolated bass and drum tracks, which I could paste together and post if you want to hear all the tracks together...

Enjoy... :)

P.S. The tuning is D-Standard - that's a full step down - or DGCFAD

Thank you, Man. I'm just a Rock-N-Roll fan who loves to create music and still gets excited by Gibson/Marshall tone and can't wait to share the experience.... :-)

Today with Technology in the Music Business, The Engineers and Producers can take a voice for instance that sounds like bbbbaad and can make it sound good. Record labels like a potential star to have the look and be able to write songs, if they don't sing that well no problem they can make it work.

You do a very good job Rob with your Music skills. I enjoy your talents in this field, you have much experience. :)

No doubt...its so nice working in a soundproof booth.

I can appreciate your Passion for Music, You remind me of the Passion I have for radio control Aircraft. When you really like something that much, a person can excel to great lengths to achieve their goals. I love music as well, but I know I limit myself to some degree, but i'm happy with that, that's what I choose. For me I take on as much as I like to . I try to balance things out. I know there are many guys here that are much more talented in playing an Instrument than I am and that's wonderful! But when it comes to building and flying radio control Aircraft that's where one of my talents excel. The thing is that's so great about everyone here on TTR is everyone of us has a Talent or Talents in doing something, Its just discovering what they are.

I'm certainly not any kind of stellar guitarist by any means, but I love it to the point of obsession. You are correct on all points. I am so crazy about music stuff that I post all these little soundclips - excited to share the experience - but maybe not realizing that others are not as obsessive as I am... Geez I must be annoying!

Not at all! it is great to hear these clips, I hope you keep posting them! No one should ever discourage Talents that one has. We should always encourage those Talents whatever they be. I get to learn many things on this site pertaining to guitars and other things. That's what its all about learning. No one is beyond learning something. I would encourage everyone to keep doing the things in life that they like to do. I was always taught in life rejoice with those that rejoice, Mourne with those that Mourne, and weep with those who weep.
