Strings

I do admit I HAVE played around with different brands and gauges over the years but am rather "set" at this point
9's on fenders and "shredders" 10's on the rest.
Fender or D'addario seem to work fine or Ernie Ballsacks if they are on sale ---
Bass depends on the bass....I let IT tell me -- I have round wounds and regulars-- tape wounds and "coated" DR strings ....med or med/light gauge --

Acoustics ..what acoustics-- IU have some kinda bronze looking things (been SO LONG I DONT REMEBER THE BRAND) on the Epi FT-133 acoustic which uis FOR SALE IF ANY ONE IS LOOKING FOR A NORLIN ERA ACOUSTIC

I have the same era Epiphone, but mine is an FT-120.

Has to be the swamp dampness being an outdoor environment. That's my excuse.
The indoor guitars don't suffer the same problem.
I use the bulk 12 packs of Musicians Friend generic strings.
Seriously cheap, averaging around $2 - $3 for a dozen plain strings, wound slightly more.
They're good for the $$$, no black fingers, but they do rust after a couple months in the shed.
Only the plain ones though, the nickel wound ones don't rust.

It's a bonus to wipe off the strings when finished playing it, but stainless steel strings may help in the high humidity. People spray "finger ease" on the strings then wipe it (it's really non toxic mineral oil) but it slows the oxygen from eating into the metal surfaces.
I could go with stainless strings, but I buy the bulk pack of cheap Ernie Balls 10-46.

I would rather use Rotosound strings but it's more expensive in USA to buy UK strings.
 
I've been consistently using Ernie Ball 10-52's (tuned down half step) on all my guitars for as long as I can remember.

wanna change your tone more than pickups ???? try different string gauges-- and OH pick thickness and materail!!!! -- HUGE change for PENNIES or free if you steel them.........WHAT??? oh COME ON ya'll take em too ----music stores want you to they put their NAME on them --- its like PENS at OLIVE GARDEN -----

I shall now take the high road (the end is near) and REFRAIN from the OBVIOUS plethora of ANUS jokes that I COULD list here.....and allow others to play with Uranus there AMS ... ;)

I get that. For me, I am likely not smart enough to "feel" the string. I go strictly on the string's ability to hold pitch.

start bending them 105's for vibrato ---- you work up a sweat ;)
 
I know now why I don't play Bass, the cotton pickin strings cost too much!! now I know why you don't change them...
 
ok there mr mansie --

I knew a fella used a BASS "E" STRING as a clutch cable on a 60's (I think) Panhead .........for YEARS
it was a hodge podge rat bike but had hand shift and FOOT clutch ......dude was a reject (no really) from the Hells Angels -- never knew anyone who RETIRED from the Angels but he did .....quite the character............I think they got tired of him hanging around LOL
