Always used EB Hybrid Slinky's (.009 x .046) and I thought I would buy a pack of their Cobalts just fr the hell of it. I was blown away by the difference.

First, the strings had a more gray color as opposed to silver. The wound strings feel slicker, as if the wraps are more rounded or something. Much better wrapping on the ball ends too.

Much louder tone acoustically and harmonic squeals are much easier.

I really want to try the Paradigm's now.

Yes... The Cobalts are nice. Paradigms are nice, too. Try a set of their M-Steels, too... me likey!

Ernie Ball strings at Musician's Friend:
Cobalts: $10
M-Steel: $11.50
Paradigms: $15

I've been going the other way the last few years. I've been using Ernie Ball pure nickels. They're softer so they are a little easier on my fingers (on bends) and the frets. They also have a little less hign end.

What did you notice about the M-Steels????

For close to 5 years now , Playing 2 hours every day, plus doing the odd Gig, I have never had a string break with D'Addario 10-46 Nickel Wound strings $7.95 per pack. I am at times a heavy strummer and picker. Because of my heavy use I change my strings faithfully every 3 months. I have tried Ernie Ball Slinkys personally I didn't like the feel of them and the tones. I will continue to use D'Addario, they give me great service. I use these strings on my 4 guitars.

I currently have a set of M-Steels on my Strat. They've been on that guitar for 5 months now. Still sound full of life acoustically or plugged in. I don't notice anything bad about them. These strings feel and sound just great on my Strat. Lot of meat with sustain. No tinny shrilly stuff. Some people have reported that the wound strings feel a little rough at first but they quickly slick up. I cannot remember noticing anything like that.

Exactly the same smoother feel with Cobalts. I noticed that singing harmonic in the solo to 'Holy Diver' seems easier to achieve and it sustains much, much longer. the guitar was noticeably louder with the Cobalts, so much so, that i noticed it was producing higher Db on my DAW!!!!
