Stratocaster Re-Rebuild!

I asked my wife last night. She said keep the Fender logo. My observations over the last 35 years has shown me that she is always intercourse wrong on this stuff whether it is color or whatever. The only actual Fender parts left are the modified body, the bridge plate and block and the output jack nacele. I'm going to change it dammit!

I put this logo on a Stratocaster neck...

Just for informational purposes this is at the CC Club in Minneapolis. About 4 blocks north and 10ish blocks west of the George Floyd incident. My wife had a women's clothing store just a few blocks away. It's not the same place now. Really dead.

And that's what 600 grit wet/dry sand paper will get you. There are still several layers of nitro on there. It is interesting to see how the maple has darkened around the decal over the last few years.

And then there was more me.

Just have to shoot a few coats of clear over it.

Here's where we are heading. I need to shoot a few more coats of clear, wait a couple of weeks and start polishing. FYI, non-humbucker MIM strats don't have the rear pickup cavity in the right location. I had to grind out about a quarter inch of wood toward the middle pickup cavity to get it to fit.

Looking good! After seeing Lenny Kaye again last night with Patti Smith, I might try something like on his Strat. Since the middle and/or neck pickup is usually the best sounding, why not go with just a single pickup in the middle position with just a volume knob? Then you don't have the extra magnets pulling on the strings. His playing and tone were spot on last night. Especially during "Dancing Barefoot" and a few others.

A few of us out here in the East Coast have met up in person, too.
We need to do more of it. If anyone is ever getting to Minnesota let me know. Do we have any Iowa members? I have family in Des Moines and over on the east side about 40 miles from the river.
