Strato-blaster

we actually had a Chihuahua named Squirrel-- she was born with a birth defect-- couldnt use her back legs and had seizures-- was a horrible thing those seizures-- but we took care of her and gave her a good life-- ALL the other DOGS watched out for Squirrel and took care not to trod on her (I mean come on we have some BIG FOOGIN DOGS)--

we also had a real Squirrel-- that did this to a CHibson

His name was Howard

he liked hgiding in pajamas

-- no really-- you thought I was kidding about PRE DISTRACTED ---HA!--
few people truly GRASP what living in a ZOO---w/ special needs critters entails ;)

Howard was orphaned in a hurricane -- nest was destroyed and mother lost -- he was VERY VERY tiny when the neighbor brought him to Shannon who bottle fed and nurse maid back to health-- he eventually got his OWN NUTS and became a bit "unruly" he now resides in the oak tree by the house and has a happy squirrel life

er........................................................uhm...............................cough---------chicken and egg perhaps???

Epiphone (owned by Gibson) has outsourced manufacturing of several guitar models to China on and off since roughly 1995, as well as a few models being made in Taiwan in the late 1970's through the early 1980's.

More like apples and oranges to use a tired old phrase. Gibson's use of the Epiphone trademark is not analagous to what Peavey did with their brand.

-- you do know Hartley wasnt even a Guitar maker -- he was a sound guy-and an amp builder---(and they are fine amps)-- but GIBSON and FENDER tried to squeeze him out by threatening retailers that they would NOT sell them Fenders or Gibsons IF THEY CARRIED PEAVEY AMPS right? --- (sounds like the Big 2 had a BIG FEAR of the little Ms amp maker)-- who said "well screw it --I'll start building guitars" -- and they are damn fine critters at that.

Dont know the guy-- (he might be a monumental prick in person--probably IS) but I do respect his Moxy -- his Drive -- his Spirit and his products-- he HAS survived -- without a board -or share holders - or loans -- or govt assistance--- bail outs etc (Chevy---- Dodge-- Harley-- et all)
come man

I mean even though he has some of hte WORST EYEBROWS IN HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give a dude a break

Common business practice. You can't single them out, it happens in every industry on the retail floor. And I have heard this rumor for years but it seems unsubstantiated...not to mention my very own eyeballs saw Peavey products alongside Gibson, Fender and many others in every musical instrument shop I visited in the '70's, '80's, '90's, etc. so even if they tried they failed and I think Hartley started building guitars just cos he wanted a piece of that market.

how do yo not see the similarity??
Epiphones were made in the US by American workers -- who lost their jobs--and Gibson ---be it a Corporate BOARD of sell souls or 1 guy--- MOVED production overseas.....in the name of profit and competition-- how is that different?

The difference is that Gibson bought Epiphone specifically to create a downmarket brand that they could use as a gateway to the core products built in the US and sold under the Gibson name. They didn't slowly start migrating the production of Gibson-branded products overseas, in the process diluting their brand identity; they used an acquisition that was intended to be downmarket from the start.

Peavey had a long history of waving the flag and being proud as hell to be both American and from Meridian, MS. They took their long-established corporate identity and offshored it, piece by piece (not lowering the prices in the process BTW), blaming it on a variety of evils (but we know what the real motive was), while Gibson and many other companies remained real, actual manufacturers of products in the US.

I've owned and loved a lot of Peavey products, but I feel their current products are just more Chinese junk and even you always point to their past and not their present when talking about their greatness.
