Can you paint over the bare wood with the Stew-Mac product??? If it's a nitro lacquer base, spraying enamel over it would be a better thing than a full strip....

You put down a pore filler if you want, then put down sealant then the nitro on top. I only know these things in theory as I have never tried to refinish (I have touched up chips and dings in laquer) and there are folks here a lot more knowledgeable than I am about these things, so maybe they will chime in.

We painted cars for years and lacquer would accept just about any topcoat - except for lacquer. We go some nice looking paint jobs shooting enamel over lacquer...I guess it's a foolish thing to even consider, but I like how the gold top looks with the black back...

LOL! Well, no. Not yet. I still need to get the clear that is compatible with the topcoat I want to use...plus, I need to take it out of service and find time to address the flat frets too....

Just razzin’ ya Robbie...you can paint it gold when you get the chance, or you can debate shades, and flake density for another week or two...it’s all good.

Thanks, Bro....You know, it's kinda hard trying to envision how it will look and I want a decent looking job. i think the color will be OK actually, just debating now if i want to gloss clear it....instead of satin...
