Still figuring out Reaper

That was the best investment ever for inspiration.. and for frustration release.... all my songs start there. cant quite do the rolls right yet but the beats you can make..the timing..its real hard with pre programmed drums in comparison. That pause..the hold back... or the timing when you are writing new material & then have to conform it . Got that 2 years ago for $125

If I didn't have widespread arthritis, a wife, neighbours, a lack of space and absolutely bugger all coordination, I'd be tempted.

I got to thank @Thatbastarddon for encouraging me to learn to record at home last year. Since,70+ songs done in Reaper since last year. How much would that of cost me in studio !! Plus the Mrs cant stand much anymore in the vocal booth . learned to spend all the time at correct capture at the mix & layer it properly from the door . I don't put anything on the guitars post recording..if i cant play it live ..dont want it. lLveler & eq on master bus. Reaper is so user friendly.

Man,i feel for you on the arthritis.. Watched my grandpop suffer. Was a woodworker & it started to take over. I could see his frustration, used to just help him so he continue on with his projects . My wishes for you to always be able to play guitar.

Look into the MT Power Drums, has drag and drop loops, or single note editing, lots of support on the forums etc..

And it's free, and is resource friendly.

May have to play with that this week.

As far as the arthritis, it absolutely blows. I’m 31 and had to leave the army due to developing arthritis in my thoracic area of my spine, also knee problems where beginning to become apparent.

honestly that’s where I get lost in the sauce too, any mixing I do is just volume adjustment and panning, making sure instruments don’t get overpowered. For drums, honestly I use my keyboard and switch to the “rock drum” voice and play it out and I’m no drummer either.

I never could get used to those built in drum programs where you have to record one mouse click at a time. Arguably with that you could copy and paste notes into the arrangement that you want/need but for me that’s just too tedious.

It's easy....

On my own personal stuff on Soundcloud, I send a file to @Sp8ctre and then he gives me a critique on the tone, based on how the upload sounds....

Other than that, I mix on headphones, then test it over studio monitors and have my daughter give me a tonal opinion.

Usually my tonal test is going to my car after uploading to soundcloud and seeing how everything went from there. would love to be able to increase the sound quality and the volume, not going to lie. but i wonder if part of my sound quality issue is using a $200 keyboard for the orchestral strings, horns, and choir.

I guarantee I have the cheapest recording setup of anyone here...

Until this COVID-s#!tshow, I’ve enjoyed having a human drummer at my disposal to record with, so I haven’t had much need for any detailed drum VSTi stuff.
I suck at drums, and I’m a lefty drummer to boot. The human drummer gets really upset when I flip his kit to lefty.
So...these drum programs are way better than my old drum machine...or mopping his tears from my studio floor after he re-sets his kit ;)

So what you are saying Don, is you play the drums backwards....;):)

Nice work, sounds great.

Sounds like they compressed the recording, wish I knew how to compensate for that.

Even when I convert my recordings from .wav to Mp3 it seems to happen.

But it definitely kept the "magic" on the track, we are all perfectionists. Lol.
