Stevie Ray Vaughn playing acoustic

He certainly looks just as comfortable on acoustic. I closed my eyes, and all I heard was SRV

He's simply, Awesome!

So this is a fine example of tone coming from the fingers and soul of the player, not so much the guitar being played.

I have often been seen to say that a good guitar player will sound
like himself on any guitar.

What do you think?

A guitarist will sound like himself on any good amp.... :-)

I don't have an acoustic. I only use them if a client requires it. I find them so limiting, although I do see guys who really can get a lot out of them, I'm just not that talented.

I have only one recording of myself playing an acoustic.

But, not every guitar he plays will sound the same.

I was surprised to find that my EMG equipped Schecter and my PAF clone equipped Gibson SG are hard to tell apart if the amp settings are not adjusted...

No argument there. I have no reason to disagree with you. Different pickups often do have remarkably similar tonalities.

I will say, when I play my guitars, I still sound like me, regardless of the guitar I play.

As for my guitars, My HB-30 and Les Paul sound the most alike. Those two would be very easy to confuse. My Jackson and my SG Original are somewhat different from the others. The SG with the mini-humbuckers sounds much different from any others. As expected, the Strat is the most unique sounding of any of them. When I play them, my intrinsic styling, phraseology, attack, vibrato, and technique persist (the "sounds like me" part). But, the the tonality and character of the sound, itself, does change (the "sounds like pickup X, potentiometer Y, or capacitor Z" part).

You hit the nail on the head.....I mean, there is a difference, but the rig is such a huge part of it....

Check out SRV on MTV unplugged (Youtube): Amazing work on an acoustic.

I had trouble posting the video.

Even playing a 12 string didn't slow that man down new bit! Amazing pace & stamina!

And the MC Jules Shear didn't have that phony British accent back then either!
Oh, wait a tic, that wasn't Shear, it was Holland! oh, and it's Jools not Jules. $#it! Never mind, carry on.
