Stay tuned next week for Part II: "10 guitarists get fitted for hearing aids."

Yeah they set two mics ( one the camera itself that is useless in this condition) the other was behind the big glass wall, directly in front of the cabinet. Really bad recording. Im sure live, it was catastrophic upon your ears and sounded better outside of the room lol

I dimed my old JCM-800 a couple times, and a Rivera M-60 head that I used to have a couple of times...just needed to know. It was stupid fun for about 5 minutes but after that was literally painful.

Lol its stupid but fun though, isnt it? Ive never gotten to dime a real 100w valve amp, but i have dimed a couple 50watters and a 350w SS amp. Even those, hurt your eyeballs from pressure, so id imagine it only gets worse going up lol

Yeah man, more fun than it ought to be, and impossible to explain to someone who doesn't play guitar just why its so damn fun. But I've even turned my little 25-watt Mk 5 up all the way through a 4x12 and it was also ridiculously, unnecessarily, loud. Way too loud for a band.

Yet so many people claim they can't hear themselves with a 50 watt amp in a rehearsal space or can't hear over drummer.... besides piss poor speaker placement, I don't get it. 25 watts all things being equal is 6 dB quieter than a 100 watt. Painfully loud.

I'm sure that anyone who has had or used these type amps knows that "everything on 10" is not the way to get a good tone from the amp. Hell, I don't even dime the volume control.

Haha, a "non guitar playing" friend turned up one day while I was playing through my '69 superlead clone amp/full stack (volume around 3).)
After a while he asked "how loud will it go?" I rolled the guitar volume off & said stand in front of it & see, then turned the amp up around 8 & walked out of the room (he shoulda realised then). Turned the guitar volume to 10 & hit a big ol' open G5 chord. He came out of the room looking somewhat disheveled & said "it took my breath away". Yes, they are frightfully loud, ear protection recommended. Cheers

Lol love the part where you walked out and he naively stood there, only to get blasted. Kinda like the bomb technician T-shirt that says " If you see me running, try to keep up"

There is only one setting other than 10.
It's 11.
Volume controls are such a waste of space....and they spoil the sound.

The more parts you take out, the better it sounds.
What amplifiers DON'T have a volume control? Ive seen old little Champs with just 2 or 3 controls ( Volume/Tone and Volume/Treble/Bass), there's a 57 Custom Champ with just a single Volume that goes to 12 along with the Epiphone Valve Jr that just has a single volume control that ive seen.

As for amplifier heads, ive seen the Marshall Major Pig that only has Master/Bass/Treble and ive seen mini JOYOs and Oranges like that. But is there an amp that has no volume control?

A volume control is a "variable voltage divider." Along with fixed value voltage dividers, they are necessary as they provide "interstate attenuation," which is also necessary in all amp designs. Cheers

The first fender champion had no volume controls. It was all controlled by the guitar.
